Comment Re:But no money for teachers (Score -1, Troll) 117

I live in Kansas.

I get so sick of hearing everyone complain about teachers being underpaid and mistreated. The problem lies with topheavy administration. I also work for a major computer manufacturer traveling around the state and I see from the inside the amount of money wasted on equipment.

My cousin is a teacher and my daughter used to be one. I'm sympathetic to the problems they face. But the average teacher makes a hell of a lot more than I do. If we as a state want to pay them more, then there's plenty of fat to trim at the school district offices (I had a supposed IT admin at one ask me what a RAM module was-- a sweet, very attractive woman, but not suited to her position). You don't need to raise my taxes to do it.

Before you get all up in arms, if you're a teacher, I can pretty much guarantee you have you own stories about clueless administrators.

Count me as one of the people who *like* IBM. I was on board the OS/2 train for years until the company so badly mismanaged & mishandled it that they effectively surrendered to Microsoft. The software engineers at the company are top notch. I can only hope that upper management has learned a few lessons in the past twenty years.

Few people know about it, but the best Star Trek since Star Trek is ST:Continues. It perfectly captures the look and feel of TOS & is a damn sight better than just about anything I've ever seen. The first episode "Pilgrim of Eternity" especially is a proverbial home run out of the park.

Yeah, but Roddenberry wouldn't even recognize liberalism today. Re-segregation, white male hatred/discrimination, a culture of victimhood, the demonization of masculinity, etc.

And me with no mod points. Liberalism in Roddenberry's time was *reasonable* instead of radical. The worst mistake Star Trek ever made was to start thinking it was Star Trek. Also, it hasn't been science fiction since then either. I'm sorry but after being disappointed time after time, I will be very surprised if Discovery turns out to be any good.
