Actually, the Chinese concealment of the severity of the plague should consider the Chinese government's viewpoint. If they had quickly locked up the country and done all the "stop the virus" things they started doing later, it would have meant that China would have been about the ONLY country fighting it.

Given the severity of this challenge, it would have left them very vulnerable to just about every other major country in the world. As with Australia fighting their fire, when you've got a challenge like this you DON'T have a lot of time or attention for any other threats, and to the Chinese, the rest of the world IS a threat.

So now, the virus is all over the place and every nation on this planet is busy fighting the fire. China's enemies (the rest of the world) aren't in any position to give them grief. This doesn't excuse their viciousness, but it does explain it.

And the ironic thing is, we got NOTHING from the examples of hurricanes we've had the past bunchteen years. Build to minimum cost that barely meets basic specifications, and let the insurance companies weasel out of compensating for the damage.

In this case, the "insurance company" is the government, and the weasels are out in force.

They did an early re-opening of places to gather and quickly figured out that it was going to overload their medical resources with new corona cases.

Fearless Leader has publicly said that he wants the churches reopened to full capacity for Easter. I haven't heard whether this is actually going to take place, but if it does, I'm aiming at having a month's food and medicine in my house just in case the surge in cases breaks supply chains.
