Journal Journal: Pet peeve, except I do not have a pet.

The next person who says

"I welcome our new ________ overlords"

Should be shot on sight. It's not funny unless its entirely irrelevant and original. Every time an article is posted about some animal or robot, we do not need this posting!

Journal Journal: My motherboard: a soothing blue, red, and yellow sparked flame

It was Tuesday and I was back from college and my little brother needed a new PSU as his current one went into insta-brick-mode. After running some basic tests I placed an order for a new PSU giving him my older one (which his machine runs flawlessly now). Feeling "smart" I soldered a connection off a traditional 4 pin molex power plug to power a fan independent of my motherboard. However, the connection I used I realize only now that when I plugged it in, I somehow through my array of wires managed to cross the red and yellow wires (the psu 12V rail didn't like this). Upon powering up my psu using the front button / motherboard, I generated a deep blue fire about 1 cm in diameter with a red tip and yellow sparks directly over a capacitor on my north-bridge. Now I am no hardware guy, I will never pretend to get one unless I get some education there and experience in the field, but this wasn't good. Three days later with the smell still lingering in my room (yes I am using the "traditional fans on that") I am still waiting for a replacement motherboard and new cpu thermal grease. I can only hope that my cpu was not damaged in the incident, but being that I had my computer powered off within 1-2 seconds of it powering on, I believe it is safe to say the cpu probably survived. Anyways this whole ordeal is very traumatizing and I cannot wait to escape this HP laptop I am currently using.
On another note, anyone else have some entertaining horror stories or something that can top a tri-colored flame?
if you read this journal entry and it looked different, I rewrote it due to it being very hard to read...

Journal Journal: Want I really want

After that nuke the oil spill article, I would really love to see a modern day nuclear explosion with our camera technologies. Furthermore, since it would be planned, much geological effects could be carefully measured, perhaps providing intelligence into detecting (*cough* North Korea) other nuclear explosions. Lastly it should be noted, how many times have you thought the phrase: "aww just nuke it!", and the possibility that this could be used: awesome.

Journal Journal: Misinformation and other liberty buzzwords

Yes I am coming on here complaining, its what I do best. My latest beef is really a hopeless cause as nothing I do will change this:
Everyone seems to hate buzzwords, you know those empty shelled words that represent a concept that isn't quite an idea, well I am tired of political buzzwords, or even the use of the word liberty as an empty shell for something every American** needs, or as a substitute for "freedom".
Here I will attempt to explain at least my take on why they cannot and should not be interchanged:
Liberty implies a "set of rules", a "system or safeguard", and the remarkable feature of "restraint". Freedom on the other hand is a word used in context to describe how slavery does not exist, or how I am free from having to choose 2% milk, etc. Liberty can guard to protect various freedom s , but is not a single freedom to do X itself. Now don't get me wrong, I am no political scientist, but I know us Slashdot-ers hate what is coined as buzzwords, or nonsense talk. Instead of referring to "liberty", "freedom", "personal rights", let us learn to talk specifics.
Every time I see a title "Obama calls for..." and someone says something like "human rights" without specifics, I die a little bit inside - and no it is not because of my political standing.

Math

Journal Journal: Logic fried, deep fried and tasty.

I've done so much math this week that I cannot feel the tip of my thumb or lift my arm (I can slightly, its called hyperbole). 70-some handwritten pages of:

if p is an element of Q, Q is a subset of the numbers, and f is a function from Q into...

I went through a brand new eraser similar to this: http://www.vikingvendor.com/iimg/ss/eraser.jpg

What I want today is a math keyboard... has all your symbols when needed in a keyboard above the normal keyboard, etc. If anyone reads this and has found something like that on the market, hit me up. Something with an unreasonable amount of programming keys (50+) may also suffice.

(above the F1,F2,F3, function keys a bunch of math symbols is my idea)

Hey I am allowed to wish!
