Consensus among climate scientists: "Warming of the climate system is unequivocal, as is now evident from observations of increases in global average air and ocean temperatures, widespread melting of snow and ice and rising global average sea level.....There is very high confidence that the net effect of human activities since 1750 has been one of warming."

Given that his organization is still fairly secret, it could continue to run without him.

Maybe, but I wouldn't count on it. I wish he would just release everything he has already. Apparently the next big release will cause scandal and humiliation in major banks, and it's killing me that the release of such information could depend on Assange's life.

Probably his best shot is to send the decryption key for the insurance file as a threat to someone like the state department and let them shut these idiots up about assassinating foreign nationals.

Is it even possible to have broadband these days and not have a router or gateway acting as a hardware firewall?

And how would you get a virus by just visiting websites? I use noscript and only unblock it for trusted sites, and I certainly don't have Adobe Reader installed (god forbid).

And what kind of email client gives you viruses by opening email? You'd have to run an executable attachment or open a specially crafted data file. I use webmail anyway (doesn't everyone?).

Does anyone on slashdot still run antivirus software in the background? It strikes me as a terrible idea to run through a pattern matching algorithm for every disk write. I haven't run antivirus software in years and I've never had a virus.

I mean, it's not exactly hard. Download from sourceforge, compile from source, use sandboxie, whatever.

It's not like the pat-down stuff is codified in law; it's an administrative thing. I'm not sure the administrator of the TSA can be fired by Obama since he was confirmed by the Senate, but in 2012 a new administrator can be nominated that will be able to stop the new search procedures with a simple signed memo.

Why is nobody jumping on that part of the summary? This is typical homeopathic chi bullcrap, like the people complaining of headaches from the nearby (unbeknownst to them long inactive) cell tower that was featured on slashdot awhile ago, and the people who are afraid to hold phones near their heads because they never took freshman level physics.
