Comment Re: Such Brave Waffling (Score 2) 36

Yes, people are dumb...but they are the same people driving 1 ton devices at 150 km/h and, most of them survive...so not SO dumb. I think the goal of the Right to Repair has something more important as foundation than the repair job and risk by it. Environmental and economics are hand by hand, and instead of discarding / recycling a product, if you have good understanding of what's going on, maybe some $ for a part and labor will put the device on service again. One friend was throwing away his out of warranty 40" Samsung TV because lack of backlight. One official service quoted the repair at $350. It took me $7 and 1 hr to fix it. That was 4 yr ago. And it still works as new. Not every consumer can afford to throw money in the garbage when a device fails.

Comment I think the root is the centralized urban design (Score 1) 267

The urban design of "financial district" and "suburbia", along with the speculation of the land value displace the population to "cheaper" housing and the centralized malls forces people to buy cars and use them for everything. No milk? grab the car, go to the supermarket. A smarter european design of distributed towns, mixed residential and commercial areas and more affordabe housing brings people closer to their jobs, encourages the use of bikes and creates a much healthier environment. It seems like in the US the layout of cities was done by oil companies, and basically they sit and wait all the "american dreamers" buying their cars and start spending a good chunk of their income in...gas!

Comment Market rules.... (Score 1) 157

Well....if you want to sell DVDs at $20, probably nobody will buy them. If there is no demand, lower the price. The main cost of DVDs are marketing and transportation, so sell volume.... make a limited offer of 10 new DVD titles for $20 with free shipping and let's see how the market will react. Offer cheap digital copies and kill piracy without lawyers in the middle (the main cost)
