ever met a quantum physicist that isn't bright? Neither have I but I only know a couple as they are WAY above my level and don't tend to be in the same circles so my pool of them to go by might be a tad lacking. Maybe in one of those other dimensions I understand this stuff but can't tie my shoes, don't know. I pretty much stick to my trailer park bitching about the hoodlums and degenerates so it all evens out in the end I guess.

I'd like to think I am a fairly smart person. Few things make me feel so much less than smart as does anything with the word quantum at the start. I get the gist of what is being said and understand some of the concepts behind it but wow. I'd kind of like this to me. I live and have lived here is deep south Texas now for many years but still haven't been able to learn spanish. I know "some" spanish, I understand some of the concepts of the language structure what whatnot. But when someone speaks spanish to me [and it happens every day down here lol] I'm almost completely lost and THAT is the feeling I get when i start hearing qbits and entanglement and string theory, and particle physics, and, and and... :) The brainics who work on this stuff are some very bright peeps for sure.

I had a 2008 MacBook have the battery swell. I popped the bottom, dropped the battery, put in a new one, and that was that. When my 2015 MacBook Pro battery swelled up, it bent the keyboard. Thankfully I had AppleCare and was within weeks of the warranty expiring, so I pretty much got a new laptop.

Yes, Apple did make things better, but with the price increases, the drop of features, issues like the video cable, keyboard, as well as the fact that T2 Macs lock out Linux from accessing the built in SSD, my next "MacBook Pro" will be a 14" Dell Latitude 7480 which will be 2/3 the price, and the same functionality. I like macOS, but I don't trust Apple anymore, and Dell will give me a five year, next day onsite warranty.

So just install OSX on it and dual boot or in a VM. It's kind of fun playing around with a hackintosh.

But, how long will it be before they figure out a work-around?

looks like all you have to do is remove the external storage, install the update, and then plug your shit back in and it should "work" since it won't install the borked drivers by default.

From the article

Fortunately, there's a quick and simple workaround for this issue. Microsoft recommends that users remove any external USB or SD media and restart the May 2019 Update installation.

This includes USB thumb drives, USB-based external hard-drives, or SD cards inserted into card reader devices. Unless users are running Windows 10 from one of these devices --which is highly unlikely-- most users will be able to work around this issue.

This should come as no surprise to anyone who owns a cat.

We don't "own" cats, they pretty much own us. We are wait staff. Pretty much ALL cats are named "kitty kitty kitty". Don't believe me? You want pretty much any cat to come, just go "here kitty kitty kitty" [seems to take all 3 so it's like First, middle and last names.] Kinda like Zathras. That said every cat that has ever owned me has "come" to me when I called its name. Inside cats more so than outside cats which lends me to believe it's more of a condition response as indoor cats spend so much more time with their humans that they are used to be called by name then outdoor cats.
