Comment So, why doesn't the USA just kick the door in? (Score 1) 541

The USA has never been one to care the least bit about sovereignty when it comes to the political and monetary interests of those in power.

I'm shocked they have not sent in Seal Team Six to raid the embassy, kick in the door and arrest Assange right there, and then transport him away by helicopter where he'll "disappear".

And seriously, Ecuador? What kind of a fight do you think that country could put up against the might of the USA, even if raiding your embassy was an act of war? What American would even care for more than 1 second if Ecuador declared war on the USA? They'd go right back to munching on deep fried pork rinds while watching Dancing with the Stars. It wouldn't even make the news on CNN.

Hell, America has forgotten they are still at war with Afghanistan. It never even makes the news.

Frankly, if they "drone striked" the entire embassy, it would make the news for maybe a week, and then fade away in comparison to all the other government scandals, and it certainly wouldn't be the worst thing on the news. I think Americans would be more upset if Kim Kardashian got married again.

Bull. In the Northeast, 24 hours after any hurricane, it's bright and clear like nothing happened. Secondly, most solar panels I've worked with still produce power even on cloudy days, they just aren't producing as much power as they could be (most engineers take this into account). PSE&G in NJ has invested a ton of money in solar, and yes, we're in the Northeast, which is cloudy 50% of the year!

Yes, he gave that all up because, get this, he is one of the few people in this nation that actually understands the Constitution.

The Constitution is the highest law in the land. It's supposed to control our government so they do not do PRECISELY what they are doing. It's supposed to prevent us from falling into tyranny.

But most of us do not care. He did. He's a hero.

I'm having a similar problem. My father had started writing a book on Macintosh 512k using Macwrite. He passed away a decade ago, but, recently I uncovered a box of floppies.

Needless to say, even reading a floppy on a modern Macintosh is pretty much impossible, and even then, the older Mac documents had a data and resource fork, and recovering data from those early formats is pretty hairy.

Some of the data can be recovered, but it's unlikely I'll ever be able to completely read the book he was writing -- Unless I find myself a Mac 512 with Macwrite, and then run the text through the serial port to a more modern PC.
