how can it always say 42 unless it knows the question? if the question is known, then we cease to exsist since the question and the answer cannot be known in the same universe at the same time... unless someone else in a parrallel universe knows the question, then the programmable quantum computer is a space time travelling machine, for which would be epic!

The fact that the Russian Government did not recall the game means either two things. One, the game was already too popular and was bought out, or two, the Russian government examined the game and the storyline and reconized that the airport mission is not just portraying Russians as bad, just Russian terrorists who wants to start WWIII. This can relate to the movie & book, THE SUM OF ALL FEARS, where practicelly the same idea happened with trying to start WWIII. Knowing that its just terrorists and not real Russians, I believe it is safe for the govt to not recall and a good notion at that too

Reagan said to Gorbachev "In America, anyone can go to the white house and say to the president, 'Mr. President,I don't like what you are doing with this country'. In Russia, anyone can go to the Kremlin and say to the prime minister,'Mr. Prime Minister, I don't like what the American President is doing with his country'". now, its the Russian land, so the Russian government can decide what they want. Cant argue much about that.

Comment AT&T fail... but so does Apple? (Score 1) 214

The problem with AT&T is the same problem with Apple. AT&T does not want to have competition and knowing that they are losing to Verizon Wireless because they blew all their cash on iphones, which is clearly shown as failing in other Slashdot reports goes to show that AT&T have adjusted to the idea that they dominated the market with their crappy iphone, whereas Veirzon actually did something appealing to us by making a smart phone Android that will be open source, meaning that people can develop apps their way, for which is nice. We also have to take in account that Verizon is US based and that they heavily market here in the US. So, I wouldn't be surprised if the Map of 3G coverages is true, knowing that AT&T is not just marketing here in US, but around the world. They do have a big market here, but i would like to see Verizon take over the market with the Android, for which i cant wait to develop apps for. Now, how does this relate with Apple? We see clearly that Apple has failed with their close sourcing the iPhone, having stupid approval processes for the apps, for which everyone hates, and that they are making deals with companies that can't handle with the fact that their coverages are crap. The best move for AT&T right now is to drop the case, say that Verizon is right, and start to focus on what the customers actually want. Apple needs to change their ideals that their products are the best, cause they're not. Apple needs to make computers that can actually play games that Windows OSes can and to reduce their outrageous prices for some mac which doesn't have that good hardware. For the hand-held items, please make them open-source and admit that controlling the market on apps will not work in the long run. That would be a form of communism as seen in China, with major control all just because you like to control the cash. I will laugh about the stupidness of AT&T, though.

Intel Says Brain Implants Could Control Computers By 2020 314

Lucas123 writes "Scientists at Intel are working on developing sensors that would be implanted in a person's head in order to harness brain waves that could then be used to control computers, televisions, cell phones and other electronic equipment. Intel has already used Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (FMRI) machines to determine that blood flow changes in specific areas of the brain based on what word or image someone is thinking of. People tend to show the same brain patterns for similar thoughts. 'Eventually people may be willing to be more committed ... to brain implants. Imagine being able to surf the Web with the power of your thoughts.' said Intel research scientist Dean Pomerleau."

Synchronize Data Between Linux, OS X, and Windows? 305

aaaaaaargh! writes "I'm using a laptop with Ubuntu 8.04 for work, a netbook with Ubuntu 9.10 when I'm outside, Mac OS X 10.5 for hobby projects, and Windows XP for gaming. For backups, I'm currently using Jungle Disk and Apple's Time Machine, and I use a local svn repository for my work data. Now I need to frequently exchange and synchronize OpenOffice and Latex files and source code in various cross-platform programming languages between one machine and another. Options range from putting everything online (but Jungle Disk disks seem to be too slow for anything else than backup), storing my data on external media like USB sticks or SD cards, or working with copies by synchronizing folders over the network. I don't want to give my data away to some server outside without strong encryption (controlled by me, including the source code) and external media like USB sticks are a bit too fragile according to my taste. The solution should be reliable, relatively failsafe, as simple as possible, and allow me to continue to use Jungle Disk for backup. So what would you recommend?"
