Well, for something that will convert any KVM into an IP KVM, look into the Lantronix SpiderDuo... though you can only iso mount to one drive at a time... one version even supports pass through, so you can leave the original monitor and keyboard connected.

For an actual ip kvm that works through a browser, the Avocent DSR4020 will at least easily and cheaply give you a bunch of ports via your browser.. the ps2 dongles are about 5-10 each, the USB around 40-50, so I'm just using ps2 to usb dongles.. once in awhile it needs the ctrl key tapped because it thinks it stuck... mostly when switching windows.

Avocent of that erea requires licensing their software to get ISO support, though the hardware supports it.

Cross border shopping is worse... if i bring my purchases home into Canada, and the border guy is bored enough, I pay 13% taxes on the cost of the item, the state taxes, and shipping and handling costs.

Usually they don't bother now until it's around $200. If I stay in the US, after 24 hours i have a $200 exemption (but $201 makes the whole thing fair game). After 48 hours I have an exemption on the first $800.

I have a 6000VA Smart-UPS RM XL at the office with 5 battery packs attached.. runs the servers at 50% load for about 3 hours, and i can shed over half the load once the desktops croak. Either way, it's hooked up to a Cummins 5500 watt generator we bought from Costco. If i remember to push the choke in, the generator spits out about 245V at a decent enough frequency for the ups to be happy with it and even recharge its batteries. I did set the upper and lower bypasses to 265/184 to handle flakiness, and output is set to 230V, but frequency is still set to 60 +/- .1Hz. I did find that all our consumer ups's, both APC and Cyberpower tend to not work on the generator output... my solution was to just plug them into the 120V feeds off the 6000VA unit.. I just make sure we don't go too high on load. The big UPS filters out the line enough for it to work. In a longer term outage I'd remove the desktop ups's from the big generator and run the desktops directly, but we haven't had more than 6-7 hour outages.

I've got a set of Siemens Centra SP's... and yes, their programming software is just horrid... unstable and VERY slow. The multiple beeps to set programs bugs me too, as by the time you go through program 3, it's taking about a second and a half to beep at me. The only reason that makes any sense would be for people who can't distinguish tone levels very well? I did get them to set the lowest frequency possible, the default was stupidly high pitched.

For my hearing aids, I have the first program set to almost no noise cancel, it works best for music for me.. second program has the highest noise cancel it will do, this is my speech program, and third is for telecoil.. mine only has a 4th and 5th program if i have the audio boots.. They mean to tell me in 2006 NVRam was still too expensive to store a dozen programs customized to what I want???

They rely too much on "here's the audiogram, here's what the software says it should be set to for levels".. but never "you grew up missing the high frequencies, so having a bit heavier bass than what the machine says would beneficial so it sounds more natural"..

Comment the hearing aid isn't expensive, it's the markup. (Score 1) 629

I wear a set of Siemens Centra SP's, and they were 7k new.. $2400 an ear for the hearing aid, 675 an ear for the fitting fee, and $500 an ear for an extended warranty for 3 years vs 1.

Turns out if they're out of warranty and you need a repair, it's $330.. my provider said it's gone up to $400 now... this gets you another year of warranty as well. I've been told eventually they'll cut me off because they catch onto what I'm doing or they run out of parts.. but I've gotten about 5 years of this so far.

So your $2400 is paying for the R&D, the actual hearing aid is somewhere around $100 or so.

Even for my warranty repairs, they just replace the hearing aid instead of fixing it.

My Father-in-law has the same Centra SP's and his were around $10k.. mine were purchased in Canada(where I live), he is in the US, so even the markup varies.

Those will generally wake everyone currently occupying the bed.. and will wake up everyone in a nearby bedroom.

The OP could try one of the travel alarms though, as they don't have as large of a vibrator unit. I don't know of one offhand that has a telephone input though. My alarm clock has a standard RJ11 plug that I can connect and when the phone rings the shaker will go activate...
