Submission + - Did V838 Monocerotis Collide With Another Star? (discovery.com)

astroengine writes: V838 Monocerotis erupted to life in 2002, swelling 1,000 times larger and blasting out the light of 600,000 suns. Although this might sound like a supernova, it isn't; a red giant star sits where a white dwarf of black hole should reside. Astronomers have been puzzling over this mystery for years, but new evidence gathered from X-ray observations suggest something rather interesting happened to V838 Mon. It collided with another star...

People who have no experience with anything other than hotmail or google need some kind of base, the ability to NOT spend thousands of dollars every time they need their site altered. I like working with drupal because it is easy, unless you are completely in the dark. Learning is good, sometimes it can be a "waist of time" but at least your brain isn't rotting.

This will make guys like google seem like definite gateway to the internet... Everything seems to be shifting. I don't think phishing will become a huge problem for people who get some PC training. On the other hand the countries more likely to have problems with this also have less of a chance to get people trained. I also would hope that browsers will adopt a feature to protect us in a more realistic way.

Submission + - Family Guy proves too un-PC for Microsoft (thefirstpost.co.uk) 1

Barence writes: Two weeks after announcing its sponsorship of a special episode of Fox's edgy animated sitcom Family Guy, the computer giant has pulled out, saying the programme is "not a fit with the Windows brand". Quite why Microsoft thought Family Guy would complement their brand is anyone's guess — the Family Guy special that was to be sponsored by Microsoft was recorded on October 16 and reportedly features jokes about deaf people, the Holocaust, feminine hygiene and incest. Fox plans to air the show on November 8, as scheduled, partnered with a new, as-yet undisclosed, "integrated" sponsor.

An anonymous reader writes: ISPs may not act for years on local complaints about slow Internet—but when a town rolls out its own solution, it's amazing how fast the incumbents can deploy fiber, cut prices, and run to the legislature.

Cyber-criminal Left In Charge of Prison Computer Network 389

samzenpus writes "A 27-year-old man serving six years for stealing £6.5million using forged credit cards over the internet was recruited to help write code needed for the installation of an internal prison TV station. He was left unguarded with unfettered access to the system and produced results that anyone but prison officials could have guessed. He installed a series of passwords on all the machines, shutting down the entire prison computer system. A prison source said, 'It's unbelievable that a criminal convicted of cyber-crime was allowed uncontrolled access to the hard drive. He set up such an elaborate array of passwords it took a specialist company to get it working.'"

I'd didn't think the upgrade would be $0, but I imagine that when the time comes I'll be able to go to Microsoft's site and get it, since I did things the smart way and built a PC and bought OEM software. I can take care of my customers and they never knew the difference. But that's me, I'm not running some MM$ corp.
