Reasons for flare-ups are commonly moral policing (Women in pubs! Won't someone preserve Indian culture? Take up arms!), alleged "insults" to $Deity and inter-religious relationships. I'm in India, and a few months ago, Google decided to push its languages to users based on their IP addresses, I guess. I logged into YouTube to find it completely in Hindi! Guess what Google, India has over 2 dozen "official" languages, and not everyone prefers Hindi! What a half-assed effort to promote usage in local languages!
