Comment FIFA plans a scam (Score 1) 40

apparently FIFA plans to release game named FIFA 24. Poor people that fall for this and buy the new game... I give it about 95% chance to be complete junk

"I can assure you that the only authentic, real game that has the FIFA name will be the best one available for gamers and football fans," FIFA President Gianni Infantino said in a statement Monday. "The FIFA name is the only global, original title. FIFA 23, FIFA 24, FIFA 25, and FIFA 26, and so on—the constant is the FIFA name and it will remain forever and remain the best."

EA will lose more then you expect on this, not really due to some inherent FIFA brand appeal, but because their franchise is forced to change name. After well over 20 years FIFA is recognized as a top tier football game by everyone. Now they will have issues with transferring this recognition to a new brand - this is going to cost them a lot in advertising budgets.

UN always was and always will be a talking forum. It has no real power whatsoever. Any member of security council can fully ignore it.

You cannot unilaterally send "blue helmets" - for them to be considered such they need to be recognized as neutral by both sides. If Russia doesn't recognize them and you send them anyway then it just means you are joining the conflict militarily with all the results you would get from doing it normally.

Comment Re:THIRD WORLD WAR (Score 5, Insightful) 637

Nope, no one will join this conflict with their military. There will be lots of talking, some sanctions, but on the actual combat front Ukraine will be left alone.

This doesn't mean there will be no war later on - if Putin decides to push further there are pretty much only NATO countries left around to the west (except Finland and Sweden). If he decides to for example push baltic states (they have large russian minorities) we may get an actual conflict.

Looking at russian sources (using google translate) this minecraft stuff was just a side topic. The case was mainly centered around manufacture of pyrotechnics and some kind of attack on Putin's party office (breaking a window and throwing in smoke bomb? Im not sure). Seems like pretty standard anarchist activist stuff.

The problem here is not a production method and crappy output, but nonexistent QA - unless something went wrong any random sample should easily pass the requirements. Finding this random bad batch with random additional tests is pretty unlikely.

The core of the issue is all kinds of social media connect people directly, bypassing any kind of social censorship. Engagement boosting algorithms mostly improve discoverability of like minded people and accelerate what would happen anyway. Then those people start reinforcing their beliefs forming deeper convictions.

What we are seeing now as troublesome groups always existed on the fringe of the society, but they didn't have the critical mass to really become noticeable. Now they can find each other regardless of geographical location and present their viewpoint to the masses bypassing societal censorship provided by traditional media.
