I am not sure why the options must be one extreme or the other. I'm sure this is a logical fallacy, but I don't know the name of it. It is possible to live in a world where people don't know *everything* there is to know about me without me also being anonymous.
I would like to live in the world of acceptable tradeoffs, please.
But what you really do is to use Spotlight.
What you really REALLY do is use Quicksilver. Spotlight has improved a bit, but it has a nasty habit of re-arranging things at inconvenient times, or changing search results based on a second letter that STILL MATCHES (e.g. I type 'i' and itunes comes up... my fingers hit 't' out of habit before I realise it already found iTunes, so I hit enter... but now it's launching Stuffit Expander for some fucking reason).
Quicksilver learns what you want it open after a few corrections, and has many extra actions that kick Spotlight's ass from here to next week.
More functional how? What work do you do?
For myself, I only found annoyance and steps sideways rather than forward. Full screen Metro apps may appeal to tablet users and those folks who are convinced that your choice of font is the same as 'design', but I don't see much gain in my day-to-day tasks; only a whole lot of retraining my habits for no significant improvement, and perhaps many more chances to sell my personal data to Microsoft servers (damn near everything wanted to use some Microsoft service, I had no offline options at all for mail and calendar).
In other words, what did I miss that you saw in an afternoon?
A man goes into a hardware store, looking for wood for a home project. He asks the counter guy what kinds of wood are available, and he replies "we have oak, cedar, and pine".
His colleague leans over and says "Don't forget yew". The first guy taps on his computer for a second and says "Oh, I didn't realise..."
"Yew must be new here."
for how I and most others play the game
I love this self-selecting majority bullshit. How do you know how "most others" want to play the game? The fact is, a huge subset of Diablo fans only want to play single player, as you can tell by the huge amount of rage online. From the numbers of attackers versus defenders versus "yeah it sucks but I bent over and paid anyway", I'd put the split at about 50/50.
I'm sure Blizzard don't care, since they're making money hand over fist (and then banning the people who paid good money for their 'game', even if they are not playing it fairly), but they've certainly lost my sale. Just the fact that they CAN decide to slam the door on my account if they feel like it is enough to guarantee they'll never see my money.
IOW, "making software cross platform can be extremely time consuming"? In the sense that if you don't design it right from the start, it's going to take a lot of time, and designing it right from the start... also might take a lot of time and/or effort. Holy shit, it's good you were here to clear this up.
I find the search to be horribly limited and irritating unless you know exactly what you want. It won't find anything except a perfect match (for items that exist but are not on the menu, e.g. regedit), or a perfect prefix match for shortcuts that do exist. The regedit thing is particularly annoying if you type reg like you used to with the run prompt, and instead run reg.exe in an immediately disappearing cmd prompt.
For example, I know I have a VNC client on one machine, but I can't search for "vnc" because it won't find it. I have to know whether I'm using TightVNC, RealVNC, or RunOutOfExamplesVNC and start my search with the right letters.
IMO both Microsoft and Apple screwed this up for fast launching. Quicksilver is the only app I've used that does this well (and I'm sure there are good clones too).
It runs on top of a full impletation of Tron.
Fucking bloat!
Bread, potato, pasta and rice are the biggest reason for obesity. [...] You wonâ(TM)t lose weight counting calories as long as these items are still on your diet.
This is false. I am currently losing weight solely by counting calories, and these items are all included in my diet. I have consistently lost weight every day for two months.
There is so much bullshit being spouted everywhere regarding weight loss. Question everything, believe no-one. Especially your sources.
In combination with complex crabs they can buildup but it's not because of fats, it's because of what the crabs do to you that your body can't process them properly.
Yes, I think maybe your sources include a hooker or two.
You mean, other than Windows Me?

Come on guys, don't mock the guy just because his earlier public toilet initiatives were less effective.
people looking at the relative positions of a red and blue ball couldn't reliably put them into a casual relationship.
Well, red and blue balls are from completely different worlds. Even serious relationships are doomed most of the time.

Yes, sometimes it does.
Make sure they're marketed as "peril sensitive landing goggles", and you've got a winner.
