Submission + - Pretty, Open-Source Wifi Lights Sync to Music (createdigitalmotion.com) 1

rryan writes: Why aren't there any sweet DIY high-power LED light projects? The SaikoLED project wants to fix that by providing open-source software and hardware to make pretty wireless lights all over the place. This video shows off 15 of these lights changing to music via PureData and OSC.

From TFA: "Open source hardware is the basis of a sophisticated, wireless lighting rig. It's already syncing to music with Pd, and automatic lighting control right from free DJ software may be next. With the effort of the open source music and visual communities, that could be just the beginning."

Immaculate Conception In a Boa Constrictor 478

crudmonkey writes "Researchers have discovered a biological shocker: female boa constrictors are capable of giving birth asexually. But the surprise doesn't end there. The study in Biology Letters found that boa babies produced through this asexual reproduction — also known as parthenogenesis — sport a chromosomal oddity that researchers thought was impossible in reptiles. While researchers admit that the female in the study may have been a genetic freak, they say the findings should press researchers to re-think reptile reproduction. Virgin birth among reptiles, especially primitive ones like boas, they argue may be far commoner than ever expected."

Submission + - Facebook buys (most of) drop.io (idg.com.au)

angry tapir writes: "Facebook has purchased most of drop.io, an online content-sharing service, but the social-networking giant sounds more interested in acquiring the company's developers than its technology. Drop.io is a service that lets users create a "drop" where they can share documents, videos and other digital content. The user can set a time for how long the drop will exist, decide who can view the content, set permissions for who can alter the content and share content in a variety of ways, including on Facebook."

Sadly you are right many gun rights people I know really thing the second amendment only apples to them and there friends. I feel we should ether ban every weapon ever made down to the rocks that can be thrown or ban nothing at all. Because what give anyone the right to say that "we can have something but you can't". Sorry for my little rant.

Well I like to think its just lame reporting trying to wright snazzy article. And with the advent of the internet and other computer related tech more (I would call nifty) discovery's are made and lame reporters get there hands on it and blow it a bit out of proportion making them sound more strange then they really are.

Federal Court Issues Permanent Injunction For Isohunt 212

suraj.sun writes with this excerpt from NewTeeVee: "Judge Stephen Wilson of the US District Court of California, Southern District, issued a permanent injunction (PDF) against the popular torrent site Isohunt yesterday, forcing the site and its owner Garry Fung to immediately prevent access to virtually all Hollywood movies. The injunction theoretically leaves the door open for the site to deploy a strict filtering system, but its terms are so broad that Isohunt has little choice but to shut down or at the very least block all US visitors. ... The verdict states that they have to cease 'hosting, indexing, linking to, or otherwise providing access to any (torrent) or similar files' that can be used to download the studios' movies and TV shows. Studios have to supply Isohunt with a list of titles of works they own, and Isohunt has to start blocking those torrents within 24 hours."
