Hell, our document shredding vendor destroys all my dead drives. I take them out to the truck, set them in one of the bins, and stick around until it is dumped. They even have a camera in the conveyor so I can watch as the drives meet their demise. Quite fun and therapeutic to see them hit the grinder!! Small pieces too, not just a hole in the platter!

First, I am not condoning driving under the influence. To me this is a constitutional matter. Law enforcement can set up a Gestapo type check point and all they have to do is make an announcement on a low wattage radio station as to the location of the check point and the law says this is enough to consider the public informed. Typically they only do this the afternoon before the checkpoint is set up. This is fundamentally unconstitutional. You should not be subjected to being stopped and questioned for no apparent reason. If I am a sober driver and want to avoid this checkpoint, I should have everything available to me to do so. This app is no different to me than law enforcement having to announce the location of the checkpoint. I also believe you can actually go to the local law enforcement or state highway patrol website and get the same information, so what is the difference in that and having an app that will do it for you?

Submission + - Jane McGonigal: Video Games: An Hour A Day Is Key (huffingtonpost.com) 2

wjousts writes: Jane McGonigal, author, game designer, and general gaming cheerleader has a piece up on the Huffington Post promoting her theory (and her new book) that gaming is good for you.

She insists that gaming isn't a waste of time as it makes gamers more confident, happier and better at tackling problems. She suggests that gamers energies can be harnessed to solve social problems in the real world.

Do any other gamers find her giddy optimizing just a little bit embarrassing?

Submission + - Rumor: AMD Is Up For Sale, Dell May Be Interested (techspot.com)

An anonymous reader writes: As far as the stock market is concerned, Advanced Micro Devices may be up for sale. AMD's shares were significantly up yesterday, apparently on rumors that Dell is interested in buying the American multinational semiconductor company.

If AMD ends up being bought out, the purchase by Dell, or any other company for that matter, would be among the biggest the technology industry has seen. It would be of course bigger than when AMD bought ATI in 2006.
