Comment Re:Same old story behind the cloud (Score 1) 187

Soon your logins (unless joined to a domain) will be handled with a .Net passport and your documents will be synced on "the cloud" and if you dont pay for the cloud services, the local copies will become locked and will not be accessible otherwise due to being stored in a encrypted and DRM locked down file that mounts as a filesystem.

the year this happens would be the year of linux on the (home)desktop(simply due to piracy in such a scenario being virtually impossible)

what about symbian(s60),Black Berry,Windows Mobile 6 which were there before iPhone
All iPhone did was dumb down the smartphone so that non "smart" users could use a smart phone
It gave a limited set of smartphone features to the featurephone crowd, and everyone loved it. Now, others are eliminating the features which were already present in the OS to appeal to the masses..

In WP7, to a large extent they have copied all the shortcomings of the original iphone OS.
From what I've heard, it doesnt have true multitasking, proper copy paste, app installations from non trusted sources, etc -- similar shortcomings like the original iPhone
Its almost as if they tried to copy iPhone , but copied the original one rather than iPhone 4.
Also, why is this in the Apple category??
And /. is giving me "unknown error" for submission. Any ideas why?(missed getting 1st comment :( )

Are books really so expensive in the western world, or is most of what is posted online just an exaggeration?? I'm doing my engineering at a university in India, and can get an entire semesters books for less than the equivalent of $100(If all are bought new). With some shopping around, borrowing from the library and reselling the books after the semester, the cost goes down to less than $20-$30. The cheapest way is just to photocopy the chapters you need(cost less than $10) The books are just low price editions for the international edition(Only difference is a slightly lower page thickness and a less fancy cover) (And this is for one of our most expensive universities,in the cheaper universities you normally pay much less for the course material)

Comment MS Notepad (Score 1) 391

Dont you get all the lack of functionality in Notepad itself. use the edit command in DOS, if you dont want to use the mouse at all. Whats the point of using an editior like VI where even the backspace key does not work as it should?, doesnt it just add more overhead? Isnt it simpler to ise the arrow keys for navigation and backspace for backspace,etc.. I believe gedit does the same for Linux Pls enlighten me..
