Submission + - Microsoft Shop as Answer to Apple Stores (gizmodo.com)

dwarfenhoschi writes: It seems like Information leaked that Microsoft is planning on opening its own stores.

"Essentially, Microsoft is taking the best elements from the Apple Store, Sony Style and other "flagship" stores. The main focuses are going to be Windows 7, Xbox, PCTV (Windows Media Center) Surface and Windows Mobile, revolving around this concept customer they call "Emily," who's basically a younger version of your mom, since they make all the buying decisions."

As a nice touch, you may celebrate your birthday in the Microsoft Sotre in your area...so its basically like a McDonalds for Microsoft Geeks

You know, there are differences between PC and consoles...for me the PC is still the ultimate gaming plattform, especially given its flexibility. I know, the gaming world is turning more and more to consoles, especially with things like Project Natal and such coming up. Still I think that a dedicated Gaming OS could also kind of reanimate the PC gaming world, not that its dead...yet.

The needed support for DirectX of course may be one of the bigges hurdles to overcome...easiest would be if microsoft would create that gaming OS but looking at windows I doubt it would be any good ^^

Submission + - What would you expect from a GamingOS ? 3

dwarfenhoschi writes: "So, I am wondering why noone has thought of this yet. A Gaming OS....an operating system which is specialized for games and gamers. I mean right now pretty much every gamer uses (or has to use) Windows, sure it may be able to handle games, but there is also much overhead which is just not needed for games. I mean, yes it is important that you can do other stuff to, like web browsing and such, but there shouldnt be unnecessary stuff. So what should a Gaming OS have ? What do we not need ? And more important, why hasnt anyone made one yet ?"

Submission + - NASA Confirms Jupiter Impact (nasa.gov)

An anonymous reader writes: "Following up on a tip by an amateur astronomer that a new dark "scar" had suddenly appeared on Jupiter, this morning between 3 and 9 a.m. PDT (6 a.m. and noon EDT) scientists at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., using NASA's Infrared Telescope Facility at the summit of Mauna Kea, Hawaii, gathered evidence indicating an impact. New infrared images show the likely impact point was near the south polar region, with a visibly dark "scar" and bright upwelling particles in the upper atmosphere detected in near-infrared wavelengths, and a warming of the upper troposphere with possible extra emission from ammonia gas detected at mid-infrared wavelengths." They dont mean those 100 years seriously right ? i mean look at it, 100 years ago we were happy to even have Power and just in the last 10 years much has developed. Science these days is exponential so i expect that in 100 years we have either blown ourselves up somehow or we will have really cool stuff...fusion power will be old by then ^^
