EA Won't Use DRM For The Sims 3 128

After taking heavy criticism for the use of SecuROM in Spore and other games, EA has made the decision to go back to simple serial code authentication for The Sims 3. EA's Rod Humble said simply, "We feel like this is a good, time-proven solution that makes it easy for you to play the game without DRM methods that feel overly invasive or leave you concerned about authorization server access in the distant future."

Study Suggests Crabs Can Feel Pain 628

tritonman writes "A new scientific study suggests that crabs can feel and remember pain. From the article: '"More research is needed in this area where a potentially very large problem is being ignored," said Elwood. Legislation to protect crustaceans has been proposed but it is likely to cover only scientific research. Millions of crustacean are caught or reared in aquaculture for the food industry. There is no protection for these animals (with the possible exception of certain states in Australia) as the presumption is that they cannot experience pain.' Perhaps soon there will be a study to determine that vegetables feel pain as well, then all of the vegans will only be allowed to eat rocks."

do not belong in school. Evolutionists, ID'ers shouldn't be allowed to spew their propaganda in public schools. None of this is science just silly speculation to justify what they believe. For example of science "Water boils at 100c and freeze at 0c" this is scientific fact. The origin of life or any such nonsense is just speculation. Did someone go back it time and video something? It isn't fact. People beliefs do not belong in school, if they want to study evolution or whatever they can do it in college. On their dollar. I don't want my tax dollars going to further anyones foolish agenda.

Comment I buy lots of CD's but.... (Score 0) 375

lately I've bought way fewer because the cd's I want to buy are no longer available. And it's not even really rare cd's stuff like Great White, Dokken, Krokus and Savatage basically all the 80's metal and hair bands. I don't want to pay for downloads I want a cd with cool art on it that I can put in the cubby of my truck dash. Switching cd's is also much safer when driving. I will not pay for a download when I buy something I want something real. Also is the music company going to by me a ipod for being such a valued customer? I think not. My truck is an 06 all it got is a cd player. Long live Hair Nation or the sat radio is going out the window.

Cities View Red Light Cameras As Profit Centers 740

Houston 2600 writes "Chicago could rake in 'at least $200 million' a year — and wipe out the entire projected deficit for 2009 — by using its vast network of redlight and surveillance cameras to hunt down uninsured motorists, aldermen were told today. The system pitched to the City Council's Transportation Committee by Michigan-based InsureNet would work only if insurance companies were somehow compelled to report the names and license plates of insured motorists. That's already happening daily in 13 states, but not here."

FiveRings writes "BusinessInsider has a story about Worlds.com, a company that inherited the patent on virtual worlds from the Starlight Starbright Foundation and is taking it to court against NCSoft over the company's various MMOs. If successful, he will press on and sue the makers of Second Life and World of Warcraft as well. The article notes that the NCSoft case is being held in east Texas, which has been a favorable venue for patent trolls in the past."

How is it joking? Jokes are supposed to be funny, not hurt other people. The internet is a real place not some fantasy land. People are responsible for there comment regardless of what media they use to make their comment. If a terrorist make a threat on the internet should it just be dismissed because it was said on the internet. Oh I was just joking about blowing up the school. Should something like that be a defense, oh he said it on the internet so it was a joke.

A Taste of FreeBSD With VirtualBSD 43

ReeceTarbert writes "If you wanted to try FreeBSD but didn't have the right hardware, or enough time to make it useful on the desktop, VirtualBSD might fit the bill: it's a VMware appliance based on FreeBSD 7.1-RELEASE and features the Xfce 4 Desktop Environment and a few of the most common applications to make it very functional right out of the box. If you're curious you can have a look at the screenshots, or proceed to the download page and grab the torrent file right away. (Note: VirtualBSD also works in VirtualBox 2.x as long as you create a new virtual machine and select the virtual disk from the archive instead of creating a new one)."

YouTube To Block Music Videos In the UK 161

ChunKing writes "YouTube is to block all premium music videos to UK users after failing to reach a new licensing agreement with the Performing Rights Society. For many of us in the UK this is great news. The two main music licensing agencies in the UK — Phonographic Performance Limited and PRS — have a stranglehold on music use in this country and are stifling creativity."

Comment Apple is simply to expensive. (Score 0) 519

I was recently checking out the local Mac store when I realized something. I don't have $2500 -$3000 for a laptop that doesn't even have an optical drive. Sure the Mac looks cool kinda if your a one mouse button kinda guy but I need minimum three buttons. Later that day I went to Wal-Mart bought an Acer Aspire 5315 for $400. I was a bit upset about having to pay for Vista which I promptly deleted after phoning Acer tech support and giving them a piece of my mind. After my new laptop was was formated and the Windows stench was removed I installed Ubuntu. And with Linux there are a few good games based on ID's engines that remind me of the good old Lan party days before hi-speed internet.
