Where do turbines, solar panels, power lines, substations and the hordes of peopled needed to maintain them come from? Are they free? There is no such thing as 'free' electricity.

This always cracks me up when people say things like this. 1/3 the cost of electricity is the fuel, the rest is transmission. So if you generate it for free it's still going to cost 2/3 what it is now.

30 years ago I worked at a chemical plant on 24 hr shifts driving forklifts around on the ice in the dark, rolling around 600# drums of acid, get treated for weird lesions on my legs from chemical exposure etc. etc. If there was a sign telling me to close my eyes and think about working in a Amazon warehouse, I would have done it.
