That's an article from 6mo ago that includes a 2023 projection not as part of the graph but uncited projection based on someone else's data. The data point itself isn't cited as being projected by the person that produced the data either its just thrown out there....so who knows where it came from.

More importantly is that Biden's actions changed the mix of oils that we produce.... to less profitable ones, note how the article states that the large producers are NOT up... that is because fracking is stagnate and that was producing the light high value oils we exported in exchange for Foreign crude we then refined into cheap fuel.

When is happening now is we are producing crude locally at high prices.

Comment Re:Trucks (Score 1) 251

That seems extremely stupid... because what they'll do is make cars bigger, heavier and less efficient across the board by nearly 10%... while trucks get limited in size for no good reason?

In any case trucks don't need preferential treatment... we just need to get existing technologies INTO PRODUCTION.... see Acates power's opposed piston F-150 demo that got 37mpg and beat 2027 EPA requirements by 50% like 3 years ago.

Most of the controllers in US vehicles can be sourced locally.... the US has a lot of fabs for those.

Where we lag behind is leading edge nodes, used in applications processors you'd find in the head unit, if push comes to shoveI can do without a head unit just put a cellphone mount there. BOOM free head unit upgrades every time I upgrade my cellphone.

Acutally I have a cheap head unit in one of my cars that does wireless android auto/wireless carplay yes... it is chinese, but it doesn't need to be upgraded to get near features. And it uses much less silicon since its just a go between for my phone.

False there are other exothermic reactions than oxygen-hydrocarbon etc... some don't involve oxygen at all, so technically the original statement is correct.

Also oxygen doesn't have to be in a gaseous state to combust see most liquid propellant rockets in which most of the fuel is injected in a liquid state at the nozzle. As another example Oxyliquit is a liquid oxygen explosive composed of liquid oxygen and solid carbon (lampback) that produces more power than dynamite by weight... and was a common blasting fuel up untill the late 60s when it was replaced by fertilizer/oil explosives that are very cheap.

Gaseous state combustion in ICEs is because of fuel oxygen mixing reasons.

Are you stupid? 47% of brazil's automotive fleet is ALREADY biofueled... with conventional crops.

The university of Illinois has a project to bio engineer sorghum and sugarcane to produce lipids (oil)... they already have demo crops in brazil that increase yield to 15x that of Soy which is already a profitable crop (for biodiesel) while also producing more sugar per acre than conventional sugar cane at the same time. Sugarcane is also already profitable without modification unlike corn which produces net zero energy and is an entirely subsidized crop.

So with the bioengieered crops we will increase biofuel availability AND use less land to do so. Projected cost for thier crops at thepump is $2 a gallon... partly because the combination of sugar cane and sorghum allows for extended operating seasons relative to current biofuel operations.

False. I'll be driving a 35 year old M1009 Blazer on biodiesel (if any politicians get off their asses and stop wasting subsidies on freaking useless corn ethanol) + my 23 year old Honda insight with a lithium pack upgrade (making it a plug in hybrid that gets about 120MPGe).

My next car after that... might be another Insight as a spare they are good for hundreds of millions of miles.

Also Achates power already has a diesel engine that surpasses 2027 emissions requirements by 50%... so... it probably already meets 2032 and is a 270HP 2.7 liter gas or diesel opposed piston setup. They also have a 10.3L heavy truck engine that Walmart and Tyson are already demoing that saves around as much fuel as Tesla claims to... and is just a normal engine so doesn't have all the problems, perhaps LESS problems, because its a headless valveless opposed piston engine so MUCH simpler to keep maintained and easier to overhaul.

Comment Re:Vehicle Count and Realism (Score 1) 48

You also forget that heavy trucks or lorries as you call them on your side of the great puddle, often run for long hours of the day, and cars typically run less than an hour per day.

So lets say a lorry operates for 10 hours a day, on average (some one be much longer some much less) and its engine is around 5x larger than an automobile. Then that results in 6.2x50x = 310million automobile equivalents of pollution.

This is all seat of pants numbers but it does demonstrate that it probably isn't cars that dominate on road pollution.... even though both are quite sizable.
