Thats why any developer company worth its salt uses CSP (Content Security Policy) to protect against any JavaScript or CSS not coming from predefined sources. There are plugins that disable them, but just like the os cant protect users that install malware themselves, developers cant protect users that install malicious browser plugins

It seems Flutter will soon bridge that gap, where Flutter apps can be developed to also target desktop. It will be one codebase designed to scale as the media viewport scales, so all apps that are created with desktop should be able to scale to desktop formats as soon as you plug your phone into a monitor/tv. Small steps but we are getting there! Exciting times ahead!

Submission + - Unbreakable phone app Sky ECC hacked by Belgian police (brusselstimes.com)

DI4BL0S writes: The cracking of a previously-unbreakable encrypted messaging service popular with criminals involved in drug trafficking and organised crime delivered a major victory for the justice system on Tuesday.

The cracking of the expensive messaging app, called âoeSky ECC,â was what allowed over 1,500 police officers across Belgium to be simultaneously deployed in at least 200 raids, many of which were centered around Antwerp and involved special forces.

Investigators succeeded in cracking Sky ECC at the end of last year, according to reporting by De Standaard, and as a result were able to sort through thousands of messages major criminals were sending each other over the course of a month.

Information gained from those conversations is what led to Tuesdayâ(TM)s historic operation, two years in the making.

Sky ECC became popular with drug criminals after its successor Encrochat was cracked in 2020 by French and Dutch investigators, who were able to intercept over 100 million messages sent via the app.

That led to over a hundred suspects being arrested in the Netherlands, uncovering a network of laboratories where crystal meth and other drugs were being produced and allowing police to seize 8,000 kilos of cocaine and almost â20 million.

A number of investigations are also still currently underway in Belgium based on the information from that cracking. While it led to panic among major criminal operations in the Netherlands, there wasnâ(TM)t much of a reaction at the time in the Belgian underworld.

âoeAlmost everyone in Antwerp switched from Encrochat to Sky two years ago,â a source told the Gazet van Antwerpen in July last year, adding that major Antwerp criminals in Dubai also used Sky ECC.

The company, which calls itself âoethe worldâ(TM)s most secure messaging app,â had previously said âoehacking is impossible.â It defended its services, stating they âoestrongly believe that privacy is a fundamental human right.â

But critics say more than 90% of its customers are criminals.

The app is installed on phones and disables the camera, GPS, and microphone to prevent eavesdropping. Messages are automatically deleted after thirty seconds. If a user enters a âoepanicâ password, the contents of the device will be immediately deleted. The app itself is also hidden on the screen of the device, so it isnâ(TM)t immediately visible to others.

Sky ECC promised a 5 million USD (â4.2 million) prize on its website, which is currently down, to anyone who could crack its encryption.

It is not yet clear if Belgian authorities plan to claim the reward.

Android is busy with it, there is a developer feature to enable it if your phone usb-c port supports displayport. The main issue with it is not the functionality but the apps not written for big screens. Samsung also has its proprietary dex system that does about the same. So they are working on this for sure, my guess is that it will get enabled by default on android in the near future, probably next year. They all realize phones can easily replace laptops for most of the workloads

To put you on track with my opinions on Facebook: I feel no desire to use it, it's a self maintaining address book for me. Now, I'm really wondering what gives Germany the right to say Facebook should allow nicknames, since when is it a users right to use Facebook by law? Is there a facebook.de? hosted in germany for germans? I dont think so. you use Facebook on free will on terms they define... you don't like it, go somewhere else!

It should be pointed out that only users of Facebook and 'Adobe Flash` running on Microsoft are suseptable to this vulnerability.

If these users don't already by default black plug-ins from running, but then again I would think those are the users that do not click random links
