Am I the only one that remembers this ability to block domains from severs YEARS ago that google had and yanked? (As I had experts exchange blocked back then)
All this buzz about a old feature that WAS there and google removed it and is now just adding it back in "reincarnated"
And I'm sure that experts-exchange will probably think about filing something against google for allowing people to block their site:-D
My dad's server is on Business Cable and Port 25 is not blocked and we have had no issues running our mail server on that connection.. Now one thing that we did do to aid in preventing us from being blocked is requesting our 5 IPs setup with reverse DNS entries to our domains instead of the Generic "ISP looking" ones that comcast assigns by default. You should contact Comcast and Verizon to set that up.
Also, make sure when you are testing if port 25 is "open" that you aren't yourself on an ISP that blocks 25 outbound. And make sure you setup port 587 (SMTP submission.. Authenticated SMTP) so that users can send mail from any ISP.
When I first saw the site, I thought it was Plenty Offish
Either that or NBC was just buttering up the public the the idea of a cable company owning a tv studio. Which would be even scarier.
The Sudoku Grab for the iphone has done this for quite some time..
Nothing new here, move long.
I loath the caps lock key.. it is a completely useless key on the keyboard.. It was useful back in the old typewriter days when it was first created due to the "mechanics" of things.. but nowdays? it is an annoyance.
All my systems have the caps lock key remapped to something else.. Usually the super key, especially on my "old" keyboards that pre-date the addition of the super keys (commonly known to Windows users as the Windows key, or the Command key to Mac users)
It was more fun to fling the pencils into the drop ceilings over the teachers desk, and what them gradually fall on top of the teacher. At least that is what my older brother did,
Seriously though, first our Rulers and Magnets, now Pencils? what are we supposed to DO in school?
And I'm for banning handheld cellphone use by drivers. But blocking ALL mobile devices?? that means I wouldn't be able to use my iPad (as passenger) to get directions.. Or call for directions (as passenger) or well so many other "useful" things that a passenger can do with mobile access..
Then of course there is the "what if it goes awry" scenario and prevents me from calling help in a crash.
Another zealot not thinking things though.
It's a good idea to learn from the mistakes of others who like adding confusing naming.
Except this is not a "photo ban", it's a "everyone ban". They want to just keep everyone at least 20 meters away from everything for safety. That includes photographers and non photographers alike. So it is nowhere near the same thing at all. As always it's about creating Shock factor in the headline.
Yeah that's right.. No bloody A, B, G, or N. the RAW real original 2MB cards. I actually got them for free as we asked the company that made them for some "samples" so we could do testing on them.. And they sent us 5 with 2 PCMCIA "ISA" cards
Basically IBM is looking at their "bottom line" in both instances..
For ODF, IBM has the potential to get more money as users become no longer tied to Microsoft Office. (Lotus and whatever other "document" products IBM has that may support ODF.. What they are I am not sure.. I don't use them).
For the Hercules issue, since IBM "HAS" the majority stake in the products in that arena, having an open competitor would decrease their income.
It's all about $$$.. Not about open source.
Very interesting observation.. I was trying to figure out what Netfix's catch was on supporting 5 day delivery, and this makes perfect sense.. Although, what percentage of their user base does that, surely it can't be that high to really affect their bottom line much at all. I'm sure many users keep movies for a LONG time and end up spending a months subscription on 1 or 2 movies.
So they integrated a "Readability" feature into the browser.. So what.. I've been using this for quite a while as a bookmarklet in Firefox..
http://lab.arc90.com/experiments/readability/
Works great and does (nearly) the same thing.. (It doesn't pull in multiple page articles.)
