Comment Re: The managers fear for themselves (Score 1) 289

Unless your manager is smart enough and flexible enough to allow free-wheeling when needed. I was in a group where we were five developers, including the team lead. Four days out of five we were done in 10-15 minutes. On that fifth day, someone would have a question or raise an issue and we'd spend maybe 45 minutes to an hour all brainstorming and designing together. That one hour a week saved us plenty of time down the road, preventing backtracking and bottlenecks. Strict adherence to ceremony (and that word damns the whole Agile/Scrum concept) is what makes these techniques Buzzword Bingo.

Comment You get what you deserve (Score 1) 419

If you blindly use code from the internet without testing it, you deserve this. If your production system is broken today, then you are an idiot. You bring in new versions and test them before you install them. You do not let your production systems call out to the internet to update themselves. All these idiots who have designed and built systems in the last 20 years, throwing out everything we ever learned about safety because it was old-fashioned and it took too long to get code vetted and checked have put us in this position today. Yeah, get of my lawn.
