This sort of thing has been going on for years, probably as long as there have been companies and products. Can't get X to work, maybe your neighbor can, why not ask? In the case of software and other technical products, it really costs the company little to setup a forum, so why not? Also the people doing the supporting are completely volunteer, and are compensated in a feeling of helping others. If they don't want to participate, then they can stop at any time.

Sadly they're supposedly not saving much money doing this either.

What part of the current system do you think is fair, and gets resources to the most in need? It does a great job of moving resources around, and storing value, but nothing about it is fair, balanced, or guarantees distribution to the places best or helpful for society.

I put in my $20, and wished it Godspeed. They did deliver a prototype, and it's sorta usable, so they didn't just take the money and run. I'm not upset.

Most of those sources are risk averse, resulting in a lot of look alike products. It's the more harebrained schemes like this one that Kickstarter is all about. The ones that the establishment won't look at while they pump out COD XIXIX11 and it's related cash cows.

Most of the liberal groups were already established, so 90% of the organizations applying were of one political persuasion. Further it's pretty clear they were trying to skirt the rules, and didn't have the institutional memory to know how to do it right.

In real life, the frog jumps out of the water. I suspect the people will too.
