The maps for China don't actually align to the satellite image? The maps are reasonably accurate, but they're off by a few miles or so, it looks like. But then the border lines up with the satellite image, and the maps for North Korea, right across the border, line up perfectly with the satellite image. Is it just me? Am I seeing things?

Here's a portion of the border which demonstrates the problem: http://goo.gl/maps/ObMDJ

No idea about Daetrin's exact situation, but like him, I can't possibly afford to stream everything from the cloud. I filled up most of a 32 GB microSD card with music and video; if it weren't for the video I'd only need maybe 16 GB. Let's see--should I pay an extra $10/month for a (much) larger data plan, or should I get a phone with a microSD slot and buy a 32 GB microSD card for like $25? Of course, it's complicated by the fact that the kind of phone that comes with a microSD slot is very different from the kind of phone that doesn't--if you want updates directly from Google there's no other option other than a Nexus device, etc.

Submission + - Software error botches over 5,000 breast x-rays (freeaccess.com.au) 1

destinyland writes: A major software glitch hit the Australian government's screening program for breast cancer. For 18 days, the software mismatched every X-ray to the wrong patient, and 5,339 patients were erroneously contacted with the results of somebody else's mammogram. "I want to reassure all women that there is no issue with their mammography itself," announced the program's director, "nor with the images taken, each of which is correctly named." But their correcting review of all the mammogram results won't be completed until Christmas, so "as always, we strongly advise any woman who has symptoms to visit their general practitioner as soon as possible."

I take it you haven't installed any services that operate on text, like something to fix those terrible line endings left by notepad, or to replace smart quotes with straight ones, or to automatically change a URL into a proper bibliography citation? I use them heavily, but last check they still didn't work at all in Opera.

No? I use a text editor for that...can't think of why you'd need them in a browser, but sure, I can see why having to use a text editor instead of doing it right in your browser would be annoying. Unfortunately, I can't tell you if they work, only that some services (potentially not the ones you want) work.
