I'm running Mint 13 64 bit and steam runs fine for me as well. Didn't need to use apt-get at all. Installed right from the valve website. Amnesia works perfectly. The open beta had a few bugs so far that I've noticed. A few are already fixed. Launching the game shut off my smaller primary monitor and made my larger one the primary instead. (log out then log back in and everything is back to normal) Also disabled alt+tab while in game. After one steam update it appears to work properly now.

I think you may have missed the parts of the bible that completely contradict those things.
I'm pretty sure the spider has seen other spiders before. Like it's mother and siblings and mates. Or looking in the reflection of water. I'm not knowledgeable enough in arachnid neurology to know the extent of mental awareness of spiders but I'm pretty sure it can make a pretty good guess at what it looks like.
However, if you mean the spider is just putting sticks and debris there in the web out of instinct and puts no conscious effort into it, I may concede that point to you.

What's the point of the covers on the wheels? Seems really extraneous.
And just like the dashboard cameras, any shenanigans will have been conveniently off-camera. Anything incriminating you will be taped and ready. Anything incriminating them will have been coincidentally lost or the camera just happened to be broken at the time of the incident. Electronics are just so fussy these days...
