I can't imagine a web with no Javascript. It's like using half of the web. I'm a webdeveloper and website owner and I really, really, really don't care about people who don't have Javascript enabled. I'd rather give the rest a great experience and I don't want to spend time and resources to provide a fallback.

Also advertising supports many of my favorite sites. I probably wouldn't be paying for a subscription, but I think it's common courtesy to give website owners the chance to make a buck for their hard work. I have Adblock installed and I only use it when ads are too annoying that they disturb my browsing experience.

Also, I forgot to mention in my first post ... I use it on an ICS Asus Transformer, so I've got no idea how it works on phones.

It still has some bugs, being a nightly and all, but the performance is great, the UI is miles ahead of anything on Android, it has Flash support and IMO, the best rendering engine on Android.

For example: I say that if people concentrate enough they can move objects by thought alone. You can ask me to prove it or STFU. I don't get to say that you have to prove that people can't move objects with their mind, because my claim is so outrageous and really it's not how things work in the real word. I'm not saying that corruption is something specific to the gypsies. In fact the prosecutor in the article was corrupt and he was austrian (?). The problem is that for them it's just something so usual for them in their interactions with other societies (whether it works or not).

The gypsy train of thought is something like this: OK, so I've got to solve a problem: Can I intimidate the dude? I'll just threaten him and his family with my hundreds of relatives. Can I blackmail him somehow? Can I steal something from him? Maybe then I can take the most pitiful posture and humiliate myself, so I can beg it out of him? Can I bribe him? If not I can lie to whoever is in charge, while caring two small children and screaming like I'm possessed. Did neither of this work? And I have to work to solve this problem? Aww, fuck it, I'll just find something else ... maybe I'll go to France or Italy.

BTW, I'm not exaggerating ... we have to put up with this shit every day.

Except that, a couple of millenia ago, when the Roman empire invaded these places and wiped the floor with the local Thracians, a lot of Romans settled here - so many in fact, that the old Thracian language was lost forever save for a few words. People in these parts were Romans speaking latin.

Having said that, I personally think the country's name is silly, but they needed a name for the two united Romanian countries in the mid 19th century (Moldavia and Valahia). I think it was also a statement against the Ottoman and the Russian empires. Something like - even if you surround and oppress us, fuck you, we are not like you, we'll never be and in fact we're better than you because we were Romans once.

And to add insult to injury they are calling themselves Rroma instead of Gypsies, because they claim that the word Gypsy is demeaning and not politically correct.

The irony is that, in the Romanian language the word Gypsy ("tigan") is purely descriptive of their ethnicity (same as words like German, French or Romanian), but in time began to have a bad connotation because of the way Gypsies behaved (all sort of cons, small time crime, corruption etc). So came a time when they decided to rebrand themselves.

According to Wikipedia, "rom" means "man" in their language, while the name Romania comes from "Rome" (a 19th century reference to the fact that the Romanian people is Latin). Gypsies from Romania were quick to capitalize on this coincidence recommending themselves as Romanians when it suited them, which became a problem for legitimate Romanian citizens traveling abroad in many Western states for purposes other than begging, stealing, coning and raping.

The big problem is that their traditional culture is very strong and they can't be educated (eduction is free and mandatory in Romania, still they refuse it) and integrated into the Romanian and European societies. I think a people is beyond hope when they cripple their own children to earn more money from begging and when they throw their their children in front of more expensive cars to blackmail the drivers. Another problem is that they multiply like rabbits - there's no concept of birth control whatsoever and the state supports the kids and the mothers with some ridiculously small subventions (but when your main source of income is stealing copper wires and railroad tracks, I suppose every bit counts).

I've had tons of problems, but most of the time it was my fault for going for the not so official means of obtaining games. I won't complain about that :)

The only game I've bought, Starcraft 2, was pretty straight forward to install, but took some fiddling around to make it work optimally on my mid to low end GPU. No big deal for me, but I see why some people who don't know about shadows, textures and reflections might think that their PC from two years ago is a lousy gaming machine.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating consoles. Actually I find them useless. I'm just suggesting some reasons people might like them. You'll never have RTSes on consoles (my favorite type of games), from my limited time on a friend's Xbox, FPS are unplayable without serious hand-holding from the game, Kinect is just too family friendly and makes everything too easy and the Wii controller is just gimmicky. So, for me consoles are a big no-no. But then again, different people, different needs.

Comment Re:What is the point of gaming consoles? (Score 1) 249

When current gen consoles came out you had to shell out a lot of money to get an equivalent PC in terms of gaming performance. That's because the hardware and software are highly optimized to run games. Also there are just a few configurations that developers have to target (which leads to further optimization). Don't forget the fact that consoles are also heavily subsidized in the hope that they'll make their money back out of game purchases. At the moment, I guess current consoles are kind of behind the times in terms of hardware and you could build an equivalent gaming PC for about $500-$600, but this argument won't stand for very long considering that everybody is prepping their next gen machines.

Next, there's the fact that everything just works. No 15 minute installs and dicking around with options. You put the disk in and it works. Don't forget that most people are scared of complicated electronics like PCs. This is pathetic, considering the huge role computers have in our lives, but that's an entirely discussion altogether.

Lastly, it's the fact that consoles also are socializing tools. It would be pretty hard for Joe Sixpack to setup his PC in his living room both as a work machine and also as a gaming machine and get some extra controllers for his friends.

So, to conclude, consoles make sense because people are bad at technology or lazy and because they offer a better cost/result ratio due to subsidizes and heavy platform-specific optimizations. That being said ... there's a torrent [piratebay.se] of possibilities to get games from not so-official channels. If you take that into consideration, then a PC is a much better deal.
