Obviously the video game scene was way better in Soviet Russia where all ideas were owned by the state.
Steam is *way* more than DRM:
- cloud saves
- achievements
- forums
- matchmaking
- cheat detection system (for some games)
- review system more trustworthy than Metacritic (imho)
- community guides
- freely hosted patches and mods
- online store with huge selection and frequent heavy discounts
