Feed Engadget: Gaming on the Motorola Atrix laptop dock... upside down (engadget.com)

The Motorola Atrix is definitely one of the more impressive devices to launch at CES this year, but we've been wondering how stable that laptop dock is -- if the phone is prone to falling out it's really not much use at all. Well, worry no more -- we just watched a Moto rep boot up Need For Speed: Shift while docked up, and in addition to playing the game normally, he flipped the whole rig all the way over to show off how tightly the phone is docked. Video below.

But five devices announced at the consumer show stand out for innovation and could propel the Android platform even further in its competition with Apple's iPhone and iPad: Motorola's Atrix and Xoom, Samsung's Infuse 4G, Asus' Eee Pad Slider, and Vizio's Via Phone. The Atrix also represents a step to the post-PC future. CES this year served as the coming-out pary for 4G networks, though as Galen Gruman blogs, don't expect widespread 4G availability for years yet.

It's not death I fear so much as anything that's boundless, endless. When I was a child, I scared the shit out of myself when I tried to really understand what it meant for something to go on forever; I had a reaction similar to the robot from Lost in Space: "Does not compute". Which was the reason why I never found consolation in religion. So, for me, whether it's everlasting life in heaven, eternal torture in a lake of fire, or an infinity fucking Helen of Troy, it's all hell.

"What's exciting here is it really reaffirms that the Internet is a serious delivery channel," said analyst Colin Dixon, a senior partner for the research firm the Diffusion Group. The gains for Android are coming at the expense of RIM (still #1 at 33%, down from 45% a year ago), Windows Mobile (11%, down from 20%) and the iPhone (down from 34% at it's peak 6 months ago). If the current trend continues, Android is expected to be #1 within the year."

However, contrary to common belief, this may actually result in less security — especially, against attacks similar to the Aurora hacks Google suffered last year. Windows (in particular 64-bit Windows 7) may in fact be more secure against attacks like Aurora than either Linux or Mac OS X.

The goal of the project is to develop a high-quality, open-source, royalty-free video format suitable for the Web. WebM video files do indeed use VP8 for their video compression, coupled with Vorbis audio compression. The video and audio data will be combined into container files that are based on the open-source Matroska container.
