And that coming from the guy who created a multi-paradigm language.

Mark Hurd will do a great job at Oracle good acquisition by Larry Ellison.

According to an article at TechCrunch, he didn't do too well at HP: "Word on the street is Hurd wasn’t let go for his affair or even for his embellishment of trivial expense reports. Instead the board kicked him out because his employee approval rating was absolutely atrocious."

Duke Nukem Forever Back In Development 356

An anonymous reader writes "'Always bet on Duke.' It seems he was right about himself, at least. The longest, most storied in-development game in history seems like it's finally going to be released by Gearbox Software sometime within the next year. 'According to Pitchford, Gearbox began finishing Duke Nukem Forever in late 2009. "Clearly the game hadn't been finished at 3D Realms but a lot of content had been created," he says. "The approach and investment and process at 3D Realms didn't quite make it, and it cracked at the end. With Gearbox Software we brought all those pieces together. It's the game it was meant to be." The game is currently expected to ship in 2010 although given its history Pitchford is understandably reluctant to be more specific.'"

Microsoft's Security Development Process Under CC License 164

Actually the proposal is meant to make this harder. I haven't read the full proposal (667 pages!), but it looks like the Python program requested is to help investers do their own analysis of the risks/performance/... of asset backed securities.
From http://www.sec.gov/rules/proposed/2010/33-9117.pdf (p 205-206)

This proposed requirement is designed to make it easier for an investor to conduct a thorough investment analysis of the ABS offering at the time of its initial investment decision. In addition, an investor may monitor ongoing performance of purchased ABS by updating its investment analysis from time to time to reflect updated asset performance.338 In this way, market participants would be able to conduct their own evaluations of ABS and may be less dependent on the analysis of third parties such as credit rating agencies.
The waterfall is a critical component of an ABS. Currently investors receive only a textual description of this information in the prospectus, which may make it difficult for them to perform a rigorous quantitative analysis of the ABS.339

Submission + - Google Builds a Native PDF Reader Into Chrome (conceivablytech.com)

An anonymous reader writes: Google’s latest Chrome 6 Developer Update comes with a few subtle GUI changes, but there is also a major update under the hood. As its ties with Adobe quite apparently grow stronger, there is not just an integrated Flash player, but also a native PDF reader in the latest version of Chrome 6. Google says the native reader will allow users to interact with PDF files just like they do with regular HTML pages. The reader is included in Chrome versions (Chromium) 6.0.437.1 and higher, and you can use the feature after you have enabled it manually in the plug-ins menu. That is, of course, if you can keep Chrome 6 alive, as users have reported frequent crashes and Google has temporarily suspended the update progress to find out what is going on.

Submission + - Apple quietly goes after Mac Trojan with update (thinq.co.uk)

Th'Inquisitor writes: Apple's latest update to Snow Leopard included software to protect Mac computers from a Trojan. Strangely, Apple didn't mention this fact in its release notes.

The malware opens a back door to a Mac that can allow hackers gain control of the machine and snoop about on it or turn it into a zombie.

"You have to wonder," said Graham Cluley, spokesman for web security Sophos, "whether their keeping quiet about an anti-malware security update like this was for marketing reasons."

Proper email validation is not trivial

The regular expression, if one must be used, doesn't need to be any more complex than:

^[^@]+@[^@]+$

Actually, the local part of an e-mail address can be a quoted string, containing pretty much any character, so "user@host"@example.org is a perfectly valid e-mail address, and doesn't match your regex. Most systems won't accept it, but it's valid...
