And how was that the case when Xerox was paid for that tech? It's so strange to see such blatantly wrong tech history on a tech site. Jobs was very open about taking Xerox's tech, which they had no idea what to do with, and getting out as a product. He talks about it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yraBG1s4gm8

Everyone seems to conflate hyperloop and boring company. The hyperloop was a specific set of technologies that were supposed to do as you describe -- key points being partial vacuum, air bearings, linear electric motor, etc, resulting in some kind of medium-distance 700mph speeds. It's actually an interesting sci-fi engineering read, if you're into that sort of thing: https://www.spacex.com/sites/spacex/files/hyperloop_alpha.pdf

However the boring company just digs tunnels. They are supposedely working on a hyperloop project as well though we haven't seen any results, to my knowledge. Which is where the confusion comes from. There's also the idea is that at some point their tunnels can be used for hyperloop tech... but we're nowhere near that. So yeah, right now it's just tunnels. Not super exciting. Some might say boring.

I can use a light switch. Unfortunately it would be prohibitively expensive and/or WAY TOO time consuming to make that happen myself (I do my own electrical work).

Let me explain -- in our new house there were banks of light switches. Drove me nuts the first week there. For example the fireplace has eight lights around it (it's a monster :) -- on three switches all in different locations. I just wanted the "fireplace" light(s) to go on.

And then outside lights... Marker / spotlights in all the eves. Motion activated all around the house (once I replaced the fixtures). Another sixteen lights in the "pit" area outside. NONE of those lights are on a light switch anywhere (except a few of the motions). Sometimes I want the yard to go black. The only way to do this was at the main electrical panel.

So, yeah, I'm too fucking busy to re-wire the whole damn property the way I want and way too fucking lazy to flip a switch ON/OFF. I push a button now. Thank goodness for HUE on this property. My only complaint w/ HUE is the limit of 63 bulbs per hub; so I have a indoor and outdoor hub now, but I digress.

I've read their ideas - I'm always open to new ideas and gave this a honest try. So many times their arguments just started to sound bat-shit crazy.

The one thing that I kept coming back to was, "what means to an end?". WHY the "conspiracy" to fool the people? The best / only real argument was some super rich group of people live in / on the ice wall and NEED to fool us into thinking it's round. What!? Why?

So let me get this straight -- ALL the governments of the world are in on this??! We can barely get along and help each other around the world, but THIS ONE THING they all agreed to try and "fool" the people because of really rich people living on the edge really controlling us all?

They're just going back to what they think they know works. Embrace, extend, and then extinguish. You nailed it. Yes, Microsoft is still evil. And crappy at programming / UI design. Windows 10. LOL

On Windows 10 you can now run Linux. They just release v2 of it with better kernel support, integration with their bastard child powershell, etc. Old tricks: embrace extend extinguish.

They're still very much in the extend phase right now once they HAD TO embrace Linux after losing the patent war. It's all they know how to do.

I can't even begin to count the number of [Linux] workstations and specifically SERVERS that I've had to "pay the Microsoft tax" on to GET THE FUCKING hardware. Why did I have to buy Windows licensing then? They never used it and the discs / floppies where all thrown in the trash. Yet I Microsoft got my money.

If I took that money alone (then) and invested it in Apple it alone would be worth 7 figures today. So yes, Microsoft is evil.

DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY. Ever.
