Who upvotes this shit? No, security was not "fine" pre-2FA and what the fuck does 2FA have to do with tying identities to actual ones? Use TOTP (Authy, Google Authenticator) or HOTP (Yubikey, other FIDO devices), both of which GitHub supports, and you are every bit as anonymous as you were with just a username and password but a whole lot more secure.

It was probably upvoted by people who assumed SMS or E-mail based 2FA would be required, which as you correctly state is not the case. People jumping to conspiracy theories about Microsoft? On Slashdot? Say it isn't so...

This is provably false. Whether you are looking at current data such as the GPI, commonly cited information sources on current or past data such as wikipedia, or history books, the United States while involved or a primary participant in many wars and conflicts has neither been the most warlike, nor has it instigated most conflicts. I'm interested in if you actually learned this crap somewhere, or if it is just anti-US sentiment as you've expressed in your prior posts.

No country spends so much on Arms.

The US for the last couple of years has only been 14th or 15th in military spending per GDP. We are the biggest world superpower, so naturally we spend the most on defense, but a small amount of it is actually spent on arms. The majority of our military budget is atually for other things such as maintenance, facilities, training, and so on.

No country foments so much conflict.

As noted above, this is provably false. I'm happy to be proved wrong with facts from a reputable source.

and we're expected to accept that the US can be trusted in any way other than to make as much money for their Military Industrial Complex?

No one is expecting anything from you. This was a peaceful meeting between 50 countries, and the US was just one country involved in this. Why should anyone trust anyone? Why don't we all just blow each other up I guess is your point, or do you just prefer death to America?

In my mind, AI just means instead of tricking some poor Ukrainians into sacrificing themselves for the financial and geopolitical aims of the US, it'll be AI controlled robots instead.

The US didn't start the war. Russia did. The US didn't ask to be involved and was actually extremely hesitant to be. The Ukrainians pleaded with the US (and other countries) for assistance. To try and make it out to be like we set them up to go to war is provably false. Americans are standing with Ukraine, because it is the right thing to do. How exactly is sinking billions of our cash into Ukrainian aid helping us financially? Given that it has been a point of argument in US Congress that we are actually killing ourselves financially with the amount of money we are spending on aid, I'd be interested to hear your counter argument that explains how it is actually helping us financially.

If you are always the symbol of virtue and justice, how could it ever be considered an act of bullying? Although we would have to first accept your premise that the one doing the "punching back" in this scenario is never in the wrong and is not just characterizing themselves as a victim. Going around destroying businesses or beating people down in the street because they don't support your social positions? Yes, that would make you the bully. Punching someone in the head because they said something you don't agree with, and equated their words with violence against you doesn't make your own act of violence justifiable. The obvious truth is when it comes to questions like this the answer is usually much more nuanced.

As a conservative I am actually in favor of the concept of net neutrality, however I was not in support of how the Democrats circumvented the legislative process through the FCC after the initial legislation failed to pass. The ends to me don't justify the means, but there are lines sometimes that both parties are willing to cross that I don't agree with. The bill hasn't been posted yet so I can't comment on its merits, but as described it at least sounds sensible. More than that, I am in favor of Congress legislating rather than either circumventing the process or abdicating their responsibility and delegating.

As far as the whataboutism, and calling people fools, and racists and stereotyping, I'm done with that. It is time people stopped torching others by default and seek areas of compromise rather than trying to make twitter length zingers and ensure everything a wedge issue or as divisive as possible. I've had a pretty crappy attitude myself in the past but I'm trying to change. Make whatever assumptions you like, but please be assured I am neither racist nor a fool. I do believe that it is fair for section 230 to be reconsidered, but I don't have a personal opinion about it because I don't use twitter, facebook etc. It always seemed like AOL to me.
