I download a LOT of music. When I find a band or artist I like, I tend to purchase the songs I like because its not very expensive and I just feel better paying for their work if I think it is good. I know that a lot of the time they really don't get much from the sale, but I hope that the sales at least help encourage the artists in their careers. I still download from alternative sources, mostly if I want to check out some new music, but if I find stuff I like I am pretty likely to go purchase some tracks.

This week, Public Safety Minister Vic Toews said that Bill C-30 would have allowed police to catch a killer who had posted his killing and dismemberment online. He wants us to believe that the fact that police need to take a few minutes to get a warrant prevented them from pursuing this guy who had posted the killing online and had for years posted his animal cruelty vids. Problem is this: People DID report it to the police who ignored it. If they had chosen to investigate they could have found him quite easily, but they chose not to use the rather robust powers they ALREADY have to investigate. Bill C-30 only really gives the government (even non-police entities) the ability to snoop on citizens without need for a warrant or even a suspicion of illegal activity without leaving any sort of paper trail or accountability. The current government has already been found to be hiring people to spread propaganda on forums and scour facebook to find people that might not agree with their policies and remove them from rallies. We should trust people like that to not abuse their power? A government embroiled in a voter fraud scandal, several finance scandals and the FIRST Canadian government to have been found in contempt of Parliament? No thank you Mr. Toews.

People are entirely too hung up on loyalty to the invisible lines. I have no real loyalty to my country past wanting it to do the right thing for its people. I didn't choose to be born here, it was an accident of birth and I certainly don't let borders limit my possibilities.

Unless you are one of thousands of military families or the communities that support them... I grew up living in PMQ's (Private Married Quarters) and the communities are quite large and usually bilingual. In Victoria I had plenty of opportunity to speak french and keep in practice.

If you were raised in Canada, there really is no one but yourself to blame if you don't know french. Why anyone would rail against the opportunity to be bilingual is beyond me. BTW, its not just Quebec that made french one of our national languages, LARGE parts of Ontario and half the maritimes are also mostly bilingual. Its just the right wing in Canada that likes to point fingers at them.

The "industry" did themselves far more harm than good with this whole fiasco. People hated them, now they not only hate them, but want their blood. This is going to change a lot more than people think.

Its time to get US lobbies out of Canada. By force if necessary. Too many times politicians have bowed to US pressure and gone against the wishes of Canadians. Enough is enough.

Because they will have to test in the US thanks to Canada's thrice as stringent rules about drug testing and approval. Many drugs that are legal in the US (and many that WERE legal and removed after being found dangerous) are not legal in Canada.

Except for this is kind of a common sense feature... they have also tried to go after tablet makers for using a rectangular shape with rounded corners... where does it end?

Well, since the media is utterly UNRELIABLE in the extreme, anything is more reliable than they are these days.

I don't think people really care much either way. Of course there will be a small percentage that are concerned about the source of the code, but in general most people just don't care. If they can download it from TPB and it works, they'll use it.

But he's right, the majority of "Anon" ARE btards... thats why this story makes no real sense. The authorities are chasing ghosts. This will change nothing at all.

I totally agree, accept for the 4chan part... if I found out my kids were visiting 4chan, I might have to remove their eyeballs...

The one in ten that are "addicted" to video games are the normal one in ten that have mental issues, and the video game addictions are just symptoms of the problems they would have anyway? Before video games there were plenty of other reasons to neglect school and chores... I know I came up with plenty of them as a child.
