considering that its been around for 5 years, the answer may not surprise you - or anyone for that matter: yes it is. i know only of one reliable way to crash it and that was a problem with the xmpp specification and has since been fixed. even running svn - which i do - does not necessarily mean there will be any instabilities.

Comment Bad Idea (Score 4, Insightful) 183

As someone who once used text browsers, I can only advise everyone not to do this - it breaks accessibility at a fundamental level: I got banned from a forum once because they mislabeled fields.

What however, works really great for comment spam is a simple question like "What is the name of Barack Obama ?".

Submission + - Howto prevent metacrap? Killer video CMS features? (mister-muffin.de)

erlehmann writes: I am one of the developers of Yolanda, a Free Software video CMS. We wanted to use only free software and open standards, but every other Video CMS we found used Adobe's Flash. We decided to use Fluendo's Cortado applet instead to play Ogg Theora video files. We also use Creative Commons licensing. One of the next things we will implement will probably be an automatic submission to a Bittorrent tracker upon upload of large videos.

Naturally, questions arise: First, how can we motivate People not to submit metacrap but useful meta-information ? Second, what are the killer-features you would like to see in a Free Video CMS ? Third, what use-cases come to your mind aside from Universities presenting lectures online ?

Submission + - One-Click-Submission to German terror watchlist (www.bka.de) 5

An anonymous reader writes: As the German daily Der Tagesspiegel reported today, the German federal criminal agency has a new strategy to catch terrorists: they put up an informational web page about the terrorist group "militante Gruppe" ("militant group") and now look at their web logs. If someone clicks on that link, his IP address will be investigated and he will be put on the terror watchlist. It would be utter madness of us to ask you to click on THIS LINK to put a billion people on their list so we are not even going to mention the URL. In case you find it, do not click on it! Thank you.
