Comment Re:barrage of ads; been to the theater lately? (Score 0) 156

I disagree... Darkened room, less than dexterous people brushing by with arms full of calories, fats, and sugars, and people coming in late are all reasons why I wouldn't want reserved seating in theaters. If you are worried about getting the perfect seat in the middle of the row that is the perfect distance away from the screen; then coming 10 hours early to your next Harry Potter movies is the price you have to pay for seeing it opening night. Go three days later instead and catch an afternoon showing. I don't mind trailers before the movie. They often are longer and sometimes give you more insight into a movie than you would see on TV commercials, and they are fairly spot on as far as targeted advertising goes. You're obviously someone willing to see a movie in a theater if you are in a theater watching a movie. I don't know what the magic number is (42 seems to be too many) but 3 doesn't seem like that many. I would give it a time length, like 5-10 minutes before I just want to get on with it. As long as the commercials are in the down time between movies, when the lights are still up and not in that 5-10 minute window before a movie, where you would expect to see trailers, I'm not absolutely against them, however I am in no way endorsing them

I really wish I could laugh at your ignorance. Patriot Day started well before Obama came along.

You are correct, it was Patriot Day, then after Sept 11, 2001 it was known as an unofficial day of remembrance. It wasn't until our current presidential regime, who we are apparently here to serve, declared it a national day of service.

Comment How bad were you at your interviews? (Score 1) 372

"I was a new grad once. It was horrible: it took me 10 months to find my first job."

Seriously???
I had some prior work experience through college, but spent my last two years as a part time motorcycle mechanic and barely part time developer for my university.
I went to a couple of job fairs, went on a few interviews my final term and had a job waiting for me when I got out. It took at most 1 month to find a job and I wasn't trying all that hard. What I heard from everyone I interviewed with was how exceptionally personable and well spoken I had been, and that is what stood me apart from the crowd.
Experience helps a lot, but if you are about to graduate and don't have it, you aren't going to get it.
My advice to any soon to be grad is; start looking long before you graduate and regardless of the position you are applying for, if you can't hold a conversation and speak at least somewhat elegantly you are going to lose out quite often to the guy who is probably not as qualified as you, but seems like he would be a better team member and better to have around.

Journal Journal: Which Linux distro lends itself best to a small touch screen

I have been searching lately for distros specifically tailored for small memory footprints and very small screens (5"-7"). I have looked at Damn Small Linux and am most familiar with Ubuntu and Fedora on desktops. My plans is to embed a 5" or 7" touchscreen that I already have into the door of my kegerator (old school style, deep door) that will let me select a few options as well as play music streamed from a UPnP media server. I will most likely start out by opening up and repurposing an old I
