I don't blame flight attendants for quitting their jobs en masse... I mean, who wants to be the punching bag that is tasked with going around enforcing infuriating COVID mask rules?

They've been punching bags long before you ever heard the word COVID. Remember the Jetblue flight attendant hero that popped the slid, grabbed a beer & slid down out of aircraft & out of that insane job?

Omicron is here and it's extremely mild.

So mild that is packing our hospitals.

We were almost all working from home when we got the Covid layoffs in May 2020. 18% of the workforce. Once it started they sent out a message saying it was happening (everyone already knew of course) & we all just sat there sorta working waiting for The Call while getting texts from those that got the axe. Finally around 11AM an email came out that it was over.

Is there a better way? The Global Financial Meltdown layoffs in 2008 were pretty much the same way other than waiting for a call, you waited for HR to come get you. Crazy. tl;dr but maybe doing it all at once in a zoom call is not the worst way. I got no idea. There is just no good way other then hiring George Clooney to do it.

Roundabouts are WAY better than traffic lights IMO. Sitting at a traffic light at 5AM with no other cars around, many times for 1.5-2 mins (I've timed them) drives me nuts. Roundabouts... zip right through! Heavy traffic? Well yeah, ya gotta wait, but then traffic lights get backed-up also during rush hour. Yes some people have trouble with them. But those same drivers have trouble with pretty much every traffic situation. Green light means FUCKING GO GDit. We've been getting dozens of roundabouts built in the last few years (where they fit), replacing traffic lights & yes, it's WAY better.

The local elected officials (& those that voted for them) really hate cars. Road diets & traffic control deliberately designed to torture drivers that is supposed to promote walking, cycling, & taking public transportation. They are replacing parking garages in the downtown with expensive condo high rises (for the rich to sleep in) & in one case a park (for the homeless to sleep in) so theoretically people will walk or bike downtown rather than drive. But I really do love them new roundabouts!

Covid is one of the things screwing up the supply chain. How the fuck is the vaccine mandate doing it? How does a vaccine mandate close a Nike factory in Vietnam? People getting sick, people dying, that's part of the reason for the supply chain problems. It's highly doubtful that the vaccine mandates effect it at all. However, people getting the vaccine is one of the things that might help us all get is back to normal. Whatever normal is nowadays.

No, my boss does not do a "happy hour" but he does have a one hour meeting (during normal working hours) weekly blocked off for the engineering department to gather. No topic, work talk is mildly discouraged but still happens, just hang out & shoot the shit. It's been going on now for nearly a year & we actually like it. Yes we got double/triple booked & regularly miss it but all of us try to attend. Usually it boils down to geek talk, the Expanse & other science fiction, the latest 3D printing technology, Starlink & Elon Musk being a douche, stuff like that.

After hours, dream on. We got enough meetings after hours because of time zone differences.

Yep, exactly why I can't use the service. When I got the email from Starlink, I got out my credit card & was ready to order... then I stopped myself & thought it might be better if I at least read the FAQ. Unobstructed view needed, get the app & check. I got their app for my phone & as I suspected, no possible why can I install that dish anywhere on my property that would work. The trees are taller that the highest peak of our rather tall 2 story condo. It just won't work.

Now I am thinking of installing a cable underground to my neighbors. Just 30 yards away & they can get AT&T fiber. Comcast sucks. AT&T sucks too but if I can play one off the other I can at least lower my bill.

My son had friends over, the three of them gamed for 12 hours plus. I'm sure they downloaded large games & all that. We talked about what games they were & how many downloads & I did the math & figured in the speeds we had at the time. These were very rough estimates but it sure did not seem possible. At the time we were getting no more than 100Mbps, so unless my math is wrong we are talking about over 19 hours of continual downloading to hit 800GPs. & I never actually sustained 100Mbps continually.

So IMO there was/is something wrong with their measurement process. I am not the first person to claim that. From 2016: Arstechnica No, I do not have one of those $10 a month X1 Xfinity modems.

Botnet? I suppose it's possible but we do seem to do a lot of reformatting & rebuilding our machines around here. & yes, downloading Steam libraries does burn up a ton of data. Even if one if his deadbeat friends were compromised, how did it hit 800GPs in 12 hours?
