This would be really cool for controlling tint in glasses though. Those transition lenses that do this automatically don't really work well. I would love a pair of glasses that allowed me to manually adjust the tint.

That problem has been solved for decades, if not longer. Two polarized lenses, one of which can be rotated relative to the other, produce the effect you are looking for.

By that reason, Google should switch to VirtualEarth for maps. Google is already in bed with Microsoft and ActiveSync for Google Apps. Why not license mapping software as well?

Seriously, don't you think the designers of such a system would have considered that possibility and made damn sure to design it so that "frying people" can't possibly happen?

I'm sure the same exact sentiment was relayed to those in Bhopal, Ukraine, Prince William Sound, etc.

$1 Trillion in new health coverage for 43 million uninsured is not a problem because we spent that much in Iraq.

I realize that asking someone to RTFA is a little much around here, but if you did read any of the news stories on the proposal, you'd know that the trillion dollar "universal" health care doesn't cover about 35 million people; it only adds coverage for about 13 million.

Second, as much as you want to compare to the Iraq war, at least common defense it is a Federal responsibility specifically laid out in the Constitution. Universal health care? Not so much.

Not sure how you are coming to that conclusion... using a simple linear fit for the last n months of the most recent HADCRUT3 global data, you end up with the following trends:

144 months = -0.17 deg C / century
132 months = +0.14 deg C / century
120 months = +0.60 deg C / century
108 months = -0.11 deg C / century

Covered under 'inspector' - all of Airbuses FBW systems, just like Boeings, are certified to fly by the FAA and EASA.

And, yet, I'm am positive that Quantas 72 was properly inspected prior to flight. Even though it was only a demonstration, I am equally sure that Air France 296Q was also fully inspected.

Inspection only covers the known "knowns" and known "unknowns"; there's still plenty of places for unknown "unknowns" to hide in a flight control system. In some cases, it takes an incident or disaster investigation for unknowns to become knowns.

I'm all for capitalisim and making a profit, but buying something just so you can turn around and sell it to someone else for more money, without having made any improvements is just jackassery.

So I guess you buy EVERYTHING directly from the manufacturer and you've never purchased from a grocery, convenience, or retail store?
