It wont kill professional astronomy. The way modern astronomy works is that you take shitloads of pictures, then let a computer filter out 75-90% of the lowest quality ones then combine the remainder.

Its trivial to identify an image with a satellite trace in it and discard it. What this current satellite spam will do is force everybody to increase the number of pictures taken to get the same number of good pics which sucks for the expensive telescopes but it wont ruin observations.

It's a 5.5 magnitude object that's 20 degrees from the sun, and it's only getting closer.

You'll need a low horizon towards the East, then kinda have to get up at like 4 in the morning, get out the binoculars and try to spot it in the half hour you have before the sky starts brightening, and then _maybe_ you have a chance to see some fuzzy barely visible object.

It's certainly no Hyakutake.

Well, natural mortality i.e. from age 30 to 31 is about 0.1% (by https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/... ). Mortality from COVID-19 at that age seems to be about in the same ballpark.

So you are in fact roughly doubling your risk of death by getting infected. That amount of risk increase is obviously not a reason to panic but also not wise to completely ignore.

The Sprint missile ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/... ) went Mach 10 and launching it looks like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/... . The above video looks positively sluggish compared to that.

Sprint also reached a surface temperature over the melting temperature of tungsten after only a few seconds, requiring ablative cooling to stay in one piece for the 10 seconds of lifetime of that missile. And now the russians want to go 2.7 times as fast (7 times as much air resistance) but stay below 2000 degrees?

All of this sounds like some propaganda bullshit.

It's more because of specific issues that apply to an encyclopedia. If everybody demands a local director that can be held liable for crimes, then Wikipedia has to hire a Russian manager to go to jail for gay propaganda. A Chinese one for illegally claiming that something happened on Tiananmen Square in 1989. A Turkish one for making up a genocide that absolutely definitely never existed. And an Indian one for claiming that Jammu & Kashmir is in a problematic situation.

With every government including democratic ones setting up Truth Committees it's going to be a terrible nightmare for Wikipedia if they have to respect every country's laws.
