Submission + - Microsoft Releases Batch of New Input Devices

jones_supa writes: To accompany Windows 8, Microsoft has released some interesting keyboard and mouse devices, all being wireless and using Bluetooth. The Wedge Touch Mouse is an artful product which is an angular wedge, being compact enough for travel too. Wedge Mobile Keyboard follows the style of laptop keyboards and includes a snap-on cover. Sculpt Touch Mouse is more like a classic mouse but features a four-way touch scroll strip. Finally we have Sculpt Mobile Keyboard which is a lighter version of a classic curved keyboard. All four are on the expensive side, but at first impression seem high-quality.

OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) Won't Support Some 64-bit Macs With Older GPUs 417

MojoKid writes "Apple is pitching Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) as the cat's meow, with over 200 new features 'that add up to an amazing Mac experience' — but that only applies if you're rocking a compatible system. Some older Mac models, including ones that are 64-bit capable, aren't invited to the Mountain Lion party, and it's likely because of the GPU. It's being reported (unofficially) that an updated graphics architecture intended to smooth out performance in OS X's graphics subsystem is the underlying issue. It's no coincidence, then, that the unsupported GPUs happen to be ones that were fairly common back before 64-bit support became mainstream."

Comment Non-geeks and non-americans grew up using win*.* (Score 1) 627

Most of the end-users in various corporations and most of the Asians working in the IT industry grew up using windows and its derivatives. For a vast majority of the people in Asian countries, Win*.* was and is free because piracy knocked down the cost of the computer. Also, most of the end-users bought windows based machines when they were in School because the games were available on Windows and for most, at that stage in life, the computer was just an entertainment device to be used for gaming, music and movies. With the increase in adoption of Linux in Schools and the qualitative jump that Linux has experienced in the past few years, you shall see increased adoption of non-Windows OSs.

Comment Replicator (Score 1) 633

Reminds me of the statement of Capt. Picard when he told a newly awakened politician that the economics of the future are different. I was in School at that time but it set me thinking! I then understood that with a Replicator, you could eliminate want and all the problems associated with it! Now when i am grown up, i realise that want is driving development also and, like all science projects, has its pros and cons. Please, can i have a non-neutral karma now?

Novell Bringing .Net Developers To Apple iPad 315

GMGruman writes "Paul Krill reports that Apple's new iPad could be easier to write apps for, thanks to Novell's MonoTouch development platform, which helps .Net developers create code for the iPad and fully comply with Apple's licensing requirements — without having to use Apple's preferred Objective-C. This news falls on the footsteps of news that Citrix will release an iPad app that lets users run Windows sessions on the iPad. These two developments bolster an argument that the iPad could eventually displace the netbook."
