Ubisoft CEO Says Next Gen Consoles Closer Than We Think 326

An anonymous reader writes "Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot tells CNBC that he believes the next generation of video game systems isn't as far away as the public has been led to believe. Guillemot noted that public demand for the best machine possible, as well as coming competition from companies such as OnLive could spur Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo to roll out new systems sooner than they want. That's not good news for publishers, though, as he says games in the next generation will likely cost $60 million to create."

Submission + - Google Search Categorising Every Site as Harmful!

nachmore writes: "Looks like even Google aren't immune to very large bugs in their core offerings — Google Search is marking all sites returned by any random search as "Harmful" — even their own pages! Clicking through to a result displays the scary warning page, while attempting to view further details results in a "temporary server error". Could further errors like this drive consumers away to alternative search engines?"

Submission + - Innovation Capitalist

Anonymous writes: The March 2007 issue of the Harvard Business Review has an interesting piece on a new entity in the Innovation space — called the "Innovation Capitalist". The article states that "Innovation capitalists are firms, often with a particular industry expertise, that seek out and evaluate ideas and technologies from the inventor community and other external sources. They develop and refine those ideas to the point where their market potential is validated, and they then pitch them to large client firms. An innovation capitalist reduces a client company's acquisition costs and early-stage risks. In return, it shares in the proceeds from the innovation." Submission + - Microsoft getting Google to promote live.com

nachmore writes: "Microsoft Australia is trying a new angle to introduce (and convert) more users to it's Live search — searching for "footy tips" in Google brings up a Sponsored Link to Microsoft's live.com! Not only that, but when you follow the link, MS Live displays a message wondering why you even thought to use your original search engine! Screenshots and a little more info here."

Actually, I reckon these guys deserve a whole lot of kudos! By staying out of the spotlight they manage to focus on the important stuff - making the games that we love to play!

Unfortunately in today's world most companies still believe that if you are unknown you cannot succeed, something that Tose have proven as wrong. I wish that there were more companies (especially in the gaming sector) that would be more interested in producing amazing, immersing titles without hunting around after the fame and glory which usually lead to less-than-optimum games.
