Comment Warner Disc Rot Fiasco (Score 4, Interesting) 110

I'm surprised no one mentioned this yet. Below is the link to a very informative video on the subject.

In a nutshell: From 2006-2009 Warner used a company to make their DVDs that decide to cut major corners. So much so, people are now opening brand new packages and are finding the discs unusable. Again, never opened or played and are worthless. What makes this most heartbreaking is the realization that some of these shows have never had another release date on any form of media. Nor are they available via streaming.

We need to stop concentrating on whether something was a UFO or a test plane.

What we need to concentrate on is the government knowing it was a test plane and then denying it. All the while people who thought they saw something else were incarcerated in jail or mental institutions. Yes, this happened A LOT in certain places especially during the 1940-60s.

That's very much a criminal act on the part of the government. Were reparations ever made to these people or their families?

A good reviewer on YouTube named Mike O'Brien tried them. I think he said he had eye fatigue after about 60-90 minutes. (He doesn't wear glasses) He said after taking them off it took almost 15 minutes before his eyes felt they were back to normal. And if you're using it on a plane there may be motion sickness. There's a feature to compensate for this but he hadn't tried it yet.

When software optimization comes up I always like to give a shoutout to Aldus who put out PageMaker (which was bought by Adobe). A very early version (maybe 3.0?) came on five 1.4 meg disks. Which was a LOT back then. Everyone was guessing how many disks the next version would come on. Except Aldus had different plans. Not only did they include several new most-wanted features but also rewrote the program from ground up. The final disk count ended up being three.
