There are two primary genders that correlate to biological male and female reproductive functions. They correlate but due to variation and differences in individual development these two genders are not always congruent with male and female genitalia. The one that is female we call a woman, the one that is male we call a man. In rare cases there are females with male gender identity and presentation. And also there are males with female gender identity and presentation. The social construct of how we treat these two different roles as humans is the respective gender's expected roles. A woman is the defined and expected role of a person who identifies as a woman within society. Regardless of the roles, genitals or biological role of a human in reproduction we should strive to judge everyone fairly.

Why is this marked Insightful? So if a person is wearing a dress should we reduce their STEM grades by -20%? Shouldn't we want equal reward for equal work? Isn't it natural to give credit based on the merit of a person rather than their genitals or whether or not they're wearing a dress? Furthermore, do you really think trans people are doing that because it's a choice? The conditions and suffering transgender people go through must surely exceed any rational choice. It is rarely a case where gender transition is the easy and obvious path for a person with gender dysphoria. Gender is not something that someone can simply choose and this is why transgender people suffer so much and go through so much pain to conform their bodies and world to their gender identity.

Thank you for this post. If science and history have taught us anything we have learned that ignoring the truth leads to death. I'm an American living in Thailand, where 55 people have died in a nation with 20 million more people than the state of California. It was the first country outside of China to get the virus. Testing is plentiful and free in most cases. They closed the country down for a month and contact-traced all infections. The time was strategically used to remove infections that were undiagnosed. As a result of the governments decisive actions covid is essentially dead in this nation. And now the country is reopening and doing so under an entirely different set of circumstances. I can go out to the mall and know with a high level of certainty that I will not cross paths with anyone who has the virus. This same situation could have happened in my home country. If we didn't have an incompetent moron for a president and a cadre of authoritarian Fox News zombies unwilling to check their egos and admit their failures and move on.

You should know there's some other less lethal nasties out there. My wifey and I are from Kansas City, United States and we had a bug for over a month that hung on and on. We are young and fit, she works in child care and caught it from the kiddies. It had a dry nasty cough and a coldish symptoms. I don't remember such a bad cold in my life. And this was four months before Cov-19 and we are in a very low risk area for the virus. Kansas City is not exactly an international travel destination (although checkout. our BBQ if you're around, it's the best in the US.) 3

Feels good eh? Being all right and righteous? Because I have a friend who runs a crane with a construction crew. The simple fact she's on the team is a constant issue for the men, they can't seem to get over it. Sexual harassment is a daily issue and she's learned to simply not say anything or make waves. She was no accepted on the team and the standards for her work are twice that of her co-workers because of the constant review. Despite these limitations she's persisted and eventually gained some respect as an operator after 8 years. The fact is women aren't respected in these professions and it takes a great deal of extra effort to make it. This is why many women don't participate - patriarchy. As a woman in the tech industry I face the same discrimination. I've had men ignore me in a room despite the fact I'm the CTO of the company because they assume I'm a secretary.

It's really intended as a put down rather than a precise medical term. I was born with a correctable birth defect. It's very simple and easily treated, no need for all the drama. Most birth defects or endocrine disorders are "illnesses", although the word is not commonly applied. I think that's the reason some people respond so powerfully to calling it an illness. I'm transgender and don't give a shit what you call it but calling mentally ill people mentally ill is true but still probably an asshole thing to do. Not that anyone cares anymore. We are in the age of Don't-Care.

Unlike blindness transgenderism is not a defect of function, per se. I was born with a correctable birth defect. It's very simple and easily treated, no need for all the drama. Transgenderism, queerness and all of LGBT are normal and natural behaviors that present in nature. They're found in wonderful people and animals of all kinds who live deeply full and beautiful lives. Being transgender is not a limitation in the sense that it's fully treatable.

It's really an endocrine disorder brought about by a birth defect that can be partially surgically corrected. Opinionated assholes on either side don't contribute in any way to ease the suffering in the world. Giving trans-people treatment has been unilaterally found to save lives. Who cares about labels when people's lives are at stake.

Cash pay (where individual people "write the check") is the highest cost healthcare area and has the worst healthcare outcomes. Insurance companies (where someone else is paying) negotiate lower rates and know the value of individual procedures. Your average Joe on the other hand has no idea and will pay many times what an insurance company will for the same procedure.

The only kind of wedding a gay person CAN HAVE is a GAY wedding. There's nothing special about "weddings" that allow a person to discriminate. Any other celebration can be substituted with "gay" prefixed and suddenly it's impossible for a gay couple to buy anything anywhere. Just because of who they ARE.
