As far as I can tell, in terms of functionality, it's a huge step backwards. XWindows is a system that lets you open user interfaces from remote machines and onto remote machines, an amazingly useful trick that some idiots didn't bother to put in its "replacement". So even though Wayland performs better, IMO, you wouldn't want it. I know I don't.

With this system in place, the first really cloudy day would shift the day around based on when the sensor can see light.. you'd get all kinds of time paradox errors when it shifted backward with no warning. These things need to be planned.

Also, if you are resynchronizing a clock every day, it doesn't have to be an atomic one to stay accurate, it just needs not to have its power interrupted. It barely even has to be an electronic one.

If they want to get the trust of, and have some influence over, the open source community, a private invite-only event with only a group of individuals that the CISA chooses is not exactly the best method. Something like an open registration convention or an open published set of proposed recommendations on a public website or GitHub repo with a discussion space and Wiki and the ability to submit Pull Requests before the final recommendation is decided upon.. that would have been better.

They talk about requiring testing AI models for unspecified "critical harm", but don't list ANY of those possible harms, or any of the things that they might potentially test for. The article is literally saying: we are going to write some laws, with a list of things we don't like, and these new intelligences will not be allowed to think the things we don't like. But which things they won't be allowed to think (in California that is -- oh and btw that means in the US - because the US follows CA because we are so cool) is none of your business.

Screw that.

This is just Netflix's way of asking normal people to pirate their stuff. Once you take away the reasonable ways / amounts to pay for their content, what's left is that a whole lot more people will end up just taking it, or at least the relatively small amount that is still worth watching.

They are vastly overestimating their value. They don't even bother integrating with Apple TV's Up Next list, and they are the only streaming service to not bother. Their arrogance shows through in many ways - including not making much in the way of new decent shows lately.

Nothing can ever replace x11 that doesnâ(TM)t allow for opening UIs on remote machines. VERY OFTEN linux machines are running remotely, it is insane to think a local only desktop is an acceptable replacement for a desktop that can run interfaces locally OR remotely. WTF Wayland developers? Get that feature out and then your product is worth having a look at.
