There is a critical mass of Teslas that aren't smart enough to be driving either. See "The final 11 seconds of a fatal Tesla Autopilot crash":

Most drivers only drive poorly in certain sections of the drive. The question is whether what Tesla is doing helps or hinders poor driving.

is already augmenting what is there. Sure everyone jumps to self-driving, fully autonomous vehicles. Yet right now today we have adaptive cruise control, blind spot alerts that look for vehicles and alarm, lane departure warnings that look for lane markers and sound alarms and lane-keep assistance that nudges you when it detects, cross-traffic alerts, collision warning / avoidance, systems, reverse brake assist that basically do the same collision detection when you're backing up, safe exit alerts, and much more. We already have a ton of AI-driven tech in vehicles, but people are really good at ignoring last year's "AI" and calling it boring plain old technology

AI is not sensors but the sensor and information *fusion* can be AI. From your medical example, infrared camera assisted IV placement is not AI. But an intelligent advice to use the patients right vein for cannula insertion because of their past history and risk of collapse of the left vein is AI.

Strawman argument. But why stop there? Water is addictive too! People get thirsty all the time. Why wasn't it on your list? Ditto for food.

Because what you really need, and what you being induced or coerced to need, are two different things!

Alcohol was and is regulated. Previous decades had 'inebriate orders' where the authorities could stop specific people (typically, hopelessly addicted drunkards) consuming alcohol

Cigarettes was being banned in NZ until a new government took control.
