Comment Re:Nobody can compete with SpaceX (Score 1) 65

The reason NASA faced this so-called "graduation exam" in the first place was the human organization of NASA and the engineers. It is well documented that the engineers were telling corporate and NASA management that the shuttle had various problems (such as the o-rings), but their upper management and NASA refused to listen and launched anyways. I don't believe this is the same human organization framework that SpaceX is working under now.

This never should have happened. The only reason Tesla even exists was a gross lack of vision and understanding of consumer desires by automakers, and a subbornness that let these attitudes persist for far too long.

I don't know what "this never should have happened" means. The reason why all the other ICE car manufacturers didn't and will not build EVs in any large quantity is because ICE CARS ARE SO PROFITABLE to them. They are making a ton of money off of ICE cars and have a large infrastructure for repairs and (especially) maintenance which brings in even MORE MONEY. Did anyone on this Elon hating web site ever watch "Who killed the Electric Car"? So, why are they going to invest 10s to 100s of billions of dollars to maybe make money 10 or 20 years in the future when they are making tons of money RIGHT NOW??? Heck, Ford is already losing billions of dollars on what little EVs they've made so far.

Jeez, does this blind hate of Elon obscure everyone's memory of GM's ill fated venture into electric cars decades ago? Does anyone remember what happened? My , GM went out of their way to CRUSH AND EXTERMINATE EVERY EV car they had so there was no record of an EV even existing. And they did it as soon as CA dropped the incentive for GM to do this. And now, we're supposed to believe that oh, GM and Ford always WANTED TO BUILD EVs, and Tesla just lucked out and beat them? Really? REALLY?

The only problem with this philosophy is what happens when ALL manufacturers see this and all of them start offering subscriptions? What happens when you have NO CHOICE but to fork over money for subscriptions because there aren't any cars manufactured which DON'T have subscriptions?

If you are blinding oncoming traffic to the point where they lose control and swerve / crash into you or someone else because they cannot see what is in front of them, then yes, there IS such a thing as "too bright" for your safety. There are other people driving on the road also.

Virtually all comments I've ever seen by others add nothing of value to any code base I've ever seen. For existing houses with concrete poured over plumbing, slab leaks are fixed with a jack hammer and a lot of dust, mess and tearing up the house. All because people are too lazy to learn how to properly drive a car and car manufacturers see an opportunity to soak the stupid. Having driven a vehicle with adaptive cruise control, it sucks balls. Continually slowing down then speeding up could give some people sea sickness. Automatic emergency braking? The last thing I want is some jacked up programmer determining when to brake my car. Lane control guidance? Sure, let's have a piece of software yank the wheel in a direction the driver isn't expecting or prepared for, especially when they are nowhere near the center lane line or the outside line.

Know what's worse? For some car manufacturers, it's almost impossible to get a vehicle WITHOUT all those crappy assist features. For the vehicle I bought, only the cheapest version of one model came without the driver assist package. All other models and variants had the driver assist standard across the board so you can't buy a car from this manufacturer without it. Never used the driver assist, the cameras on board are crappy because of the limited field of view, restricting steering assist to straight lines, If the windshield cracks, the replacement is going to be expensive because of the cameras. It has a audible "warning" telling you that a line was crossed, and it dings constantly. Turn it off? Yeah, but now the dash has a big yellow light telling you the lane assist is off, so now I cannot just glance at my dashboard to see if something is wrong, because there's already a big yellow light on because I turned the assist off... Believe me if I could buy a car WITHOUT this crap that had the other features I want, I would opt out immediately. Any why does this manufacturer do this? Because their stupid marketing crap of "oh we love you so much", and "we love you so much we're going to protect you" bullshit.
