Comment Quicken 2006 (Score 2) 174

I still manage my finances with Quicken 2006, now with 18 years of data. It is at least 3x as fast as the latest Quicken. Click from a checking account to a savings account, and Quicken 2006 switches instantaneously, while the latest Quicken takes 3 excruciating seconds.

Q2006 has a few bugs, but I know what they are and can work around them. For the latest market data, I hit the API from https://site.financialmodeling... and import the data as CSV files.

I'll probably never upgrade. (Anyway, the new Quicken can't import the old data reliably, according to the company.)

Studying damaged brains (a.k.a. lesion research) has also led to huge mistakes about how brains work. Scientists assume that if damage to region A causes the loss of function B, then function B must be localized in region A. That's an unjustified conclusion. Region A might simply connect 5 other regions that work together to generate function B, but the connectivity is damaged so function B can't be implemented.

"Where in the brain is the mind?" is a poor scientific question that assumes functions are localized, just like phrenology. Better to ask "How does the brain create the mind?"
