Comment Client/Server was Not Everything (Score 1) 164

Client Server turned out to be not so good with proliferation of servers in a company. Virtual Hosts on same hardware solves this somewhat but the model is ugly with redundant code per user and onerous per user fees by MS. The internet programming will mature to have clean server code that can be balanced easily and simple client device to plug into server. Maybe this is what IBM is doing but I see that spun off in the upcoming bankruptcy. Sounds like batch system is making a comeback.

But it also offers hope. If conscientious individuals take action now, while there's still time, there's much they can do not only to reduce their personal vulnerability to these threats, but also to step into this new future with newfound optimism.

The homeowner should pay for a conduit pipe from street then comm vendors can bid to use it by fishing conduit wire thru it to home. This would drastically reduce the price of upgrading services and even allow more than one provider at a time. The problem is cronyism on the local level with Cable deals from the 1970's and then Federal rules that favor the incumbents to collude.
