Goobergunch writes: "In 2007, Google acquired GrandCentral, a service providing a single phone number for users to receive phone calls and voice mail recordings. Now, Google has transformed GrandCentral into Google Voice, maintaining GrandCentral's existing features and adding several new ones of their own, such as automated voice mail transcriptions, free conference calls, and Gmail-style text message handling. The service is currently restricted to old GrandCentral customers, but will be released to everybody in a few weeks."
