Submission + - Does anyone see a world where CPU based crypto mining could rule the day? (blistreports.com)

Syncrou writes: In the mid the late 90's commodity hardware started it's march toward replacing proprietary boxes in the data center. That process with Xen and eventually KVM allowed us to create the cloud we're all familiar with today. Does anyone see a future where GPUs are no longer the controlling factor for mining? Hardware Abstraction and Containerization 'seem' like there is a possibility. Is this a future that could happen?
