eagl writes: It seems as if DIRECTV has jumped on the DRM bandwagon in a big way. Wil Wheaton finds himself with 57 channels (plus or minus a few hundred) and nothing on, quite literally. Is the inevitable result of forcing restrictive standards that do not benefit consumers?

  • It's stuff like this that makes me happy that I have not purchased cable TV for the last eight years. I'm also very happy that I have not wasted money on a HDTV that may or may not work when someone decides to turn the screws. DRM is a market killer because it creates an unacceptable level of uncertainty. Netflicks, theaters and an old SDTV have provided me with more entertainment that I have time for. I would have gone for Netflicks earlier if DeCSS was not against the law in the US. I'd like to have
